Nebraska, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tulsa, and Illinois.

Also are you guys hearing any names being thrown around for any of these jobs?

Illinois by a pretty decent margin

SC has a better arena and facilities are just fine for recruiting
MSU has better current talent and in better shape for sure. So those 2 are interchangeable depending on what criteria you look at.

Nebraska? Tulsa? I know nothing about either team except maybe Nebraska's conference might put them ahead of Tulsa.

Illinois

State/South Carolina

Nebraska

Tulsa

Tulsa has been a jumping point for a ton of coaches though (Bill Self, Tubby Smith and Nolan Richardson off the top of my head) so if you were a very small conference coach or assistant that wasn't qualified for one of the big jobs yet, I think it's a great opportunity

What makes Illinois such a great job?

They have really dropped off the past 4-5 years with the return to power of the Michigans and Indianas of the Big-10

They also have to compete with Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Marquette in recruiting.

1. Illinois. Usually a top-half B1G program.
2. MS State. Outside of Kentucky (and more recently Florida) has had b-ball success in the SEC.
3. South Carolina. Has to compete too frequently with the Tobacco Road programs and Florida for top-level talent, but of the latter three would be the best choice if for no other reason that Columbia seems to be a nice place to live.
4. Tulsa. Not only is it one of the smallest D1 schools, it has to compete with Okie State, Arkansas, Kansas, and Mizzou for top-level talent. But I give it the nod above Nebraska.
5. Nebraska. No strong b-ball history and little talent base. Clearly the worst of the options.

Everyone talks about college basketball coaches in the SEC West competing with the popularity of football, but the only job outside of the SEC that may be worse with that situation is Nebraska. South Carolina has an opportunity to compete because there are lots of great players in the Carolinas, the only problem is the dominance in college basketball and recruiting from the state just above plus competing with Clemson from the ACC.

Which is why everyone is so high on us getting Gregg Marshall. Already has well-established connections in this state.

People on the MSU boards are hearing USCe may be getting Frank Martin from K-State.

ONCE in the career of their program.

They don't have shite on Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan, or Michigan State IMO.

They are the 5th or 6th best program in the big 10
right with Wisconcin and Purdue

Yeah our rivals' site just brought his name up today on their frequently updated coaching search articles. Apparently has "heavy" interest in us.

I wish our boards would have some info on our search but its being kept VERY HUSH HUSH.

We have no idea who has interest in us and who doesn't. There have been about 25-30 names thrown around.

Well to be fair our AD was very adamant about keeping everything behind closed doors so we have no idea who SC is actually talking to supposedly but he is an "official" candidate now who has been open about being interested in us.

At least according to the rivals' site.

It's a basketball school for sure. We lost Turgeon to Maryland pretty much solely based on that fact. Because of that fact also, I imagine Illinois can pay more than State, South Carolina or Nebraska since all 3 of those schools have big football contracts on the books. There's also the recruiting territory. If Illinois could recruit Chicago and the state of Illinois well they would be a powerhouse.

The gap might be less between Illinois and State/SC than I indicated but Illinois is still the better job I think, not that the others aren't good jobs.
