A. The sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer in the parish and the only elected one.
B. The DA doesn't need weapons. Period. He's not kicking in doors, he's not running any jails, he's not arresting anyone, he's not defending his office from hordes of zombies.
C. They're in the same damn building as the Sherrifs Department. A building that everyone who sets foot inside goes through a metal detector or is a real live law enforcement officer. The DA has no need for weapons at all, much less full auto M16s. And why anyone would be cool with that, much less support it is beyond me.

Yea I don't understand it either.

If I held the power the DA has and was offered those badass guns I would snatch them up faster than a chicken running from drunks on Mardi Gras.

Not sure if serious. Do you know what a DA does?
Apparently you are not aware of everything they do. There are investigators that do just that...go in the field and investigate. There are more than just
DA
Try that link. that one even says that the rifles are semi-auto.
quote:
Caddo Parish District Attorney Charles Scott said the weapons were for his investigators because of the dangerous situations they may face when in the field.
quote:
A spokesperson for the Louisiana program that transferred the M16's to the DA's office said the weapons were not purchased, but are instead on loan. Because of that, the notification law did not apply.
Not sure where a law has been broken yet. Please correct me if wrong.
quote:
Justification: This office recently staffed a Special Investigations Section which handles predominantly high profile and dangerous drug offenders. We. Routinely participate in high-risk surveillance and arrests activities with the Shreveport Police and Caddo Sheriff, and do not currently have the funds to provide patrol rifles to those involved in these high risk activities.
This is from the form that was sent to acquire the rifles. Try a little research some time before assuming you are all knowing

quote:You are more clueless than the DA. I guess the judges are next. Oh, then the clerk of court. They deal with all sorts of potentially dangerous people. Then the registrar. Hey, I'm an officer of the court. I need one too. Sometimes clients and opposing parties want to harm me.
Try a little research some time before assuming you are all knowing
It is to laugh.

Can you not read...they go out with law enforcement and assist in these investigations. They are not people sitting behind a desk or in a court room. These are people that are in the community. Try reading before you spit out the same nonsense again

Can you not read
quote:Not because they are supposed to. Only because the DA has no idea what his role is.

I know a current DA pretty well and he's never mentioned doing anything dangerous, much less ever wishing he had a rifle.

Are you shitting me? The DA has his own cops? Am I the only one wondering what the hell that's about?
Posted on 3/12/12 at 9:21 pm to faxis
Everybody that feels safer knowing the freaking M-16 toting DA guys are in your neighborhood locked and loaded raise your hand.

Nope. I'm trying to figure out wtf is going on over there. Isn't that what the sheriff's office is for?
Sounds like a clusterfrick up there.

Well honestly, they will probably kill a bunch of people who either did something wrong in the past, or are likely to do so in the future. Kinda like a primitive version of Minority Report/precog. Of course, we will lose some innocents and a few ADAs in the process.

The DA's do have investigaters that carry weapons but they investigate crime/murder scenes after the fact. I see no reason they would ever be in an offensive position where they would need automatic weapons.

Great set up if one is ever stolen.....
Posted on 3/12/12 at 10:11 pm to AlxTgr
You are missing the point yet again. The question relates to the power of the sheriff over other governmental bodies, not whether the DA really needs automatic rifles. Try and keep up.
