I would stay away from both of those. Anything not ground inhouse is suspect, as far as I'm concerned. Just because it's labeled as "natural" doesn't mean it is. It's all marketing.
Go to the butcher in the back and ask him to grind it for you.

You sure they don't get their ground beef pre-ground from the meat packer?
not unless they started doing it recently. Their butcher is always there hanging out, so I will ask next time. They will always grind whatever you want either way

that's kind of a silly argument, though
"pink slime" is just another boogeyman until objective, non-biased evidence comes out against it
Not really. The FDA allows them to list ammonia as "processing ingredient" on packaging. They are hiding what is in the ground beef.
Is ammonia harmful to your body?

The fact that they try and hide it is evidence enough for me.

ding, ding, ding...we have a winner folks

Watch Food, Inc. They go into all of this and show it being made. It's disgusting......we haven't eaten ground meat in 3 or 4 years.

No kidding. Sadly there are many that wait on Wikipedia articles and .edu studies to prove to them that this is a bad idea.
When I order chicken breast at a restaurant, I expect to get chicken breast. I do not order chicken breast to get breast meat mixed with chicken feet or chicken a-hole.
Even if it did turn out to be perfectly safe, I don't choose ground chuck for ground chuck, hoof, and intestine. I choose it for ground chuck.

and if it has no real effects? what then?

i understand this argument completely
when i buy something like ground beef from a package, i just assume it has cow a-hole in it

any one grind their own meat? if so, what type of grinder do you use?

The second half of my post explained my stance.
If it has no effects, why is it in there?
If adding chicken meat to my burger meat makes it more profitable to the company while doing nothing to change the nutrition of the meat or anything to effect its taste, I don't want to support it. I want ground sirloin and not ground sirloin mixed with pigeon feathers. I want ground ribeye and not ground ribeye mixed with charcoal.

After reading another article about the McDonald's Chicken Nugget pink slime goo crap, this sadly doesn't surprise me.
That being said, is the ground beef you buy (not in tubes) safe from this? For example, I go to Winn Dixie, Rouses, Roberts, whatever and I get the ground beef that has the plastic wrap and store label on it (and the beef usually expires within 4 days)? Is that ground in house?
I have to say the best burger I've ever had was a burger made from deer and elk meat and it also had bacon ends. Boyfriend's dad is an avid hunter, has his own meat grinder and grinded all 3 together. It was pure heaven on a bun .
Whenever I become an OT baller I vow to only shop at Whole Foods and Fresh Market. Since having an elk burger I'm curious to try bison (and it's lower in fat, high in protein, and juicy).

When I make burgers now I pretty much always use ground deer mix we have made after hunting season. 45/45/10 deer/pork/beef. Some good stuff.

health effects are different than economic effects
it's in there b/c it's cheap filler

you don't have to support it

But how would we know?
"It's pink, therefore it's meat."

FWIW, I only buy meat and veggies and fruit from whole foods and my grocery bill is only about 100 bucks per trip. It's not as expensive as you think, when compared to other quality grocery stores.

I'd rather not risk it when knowing that non-pink slime meat is just fine.
What if the ground meat is actually worse for you than the pink slime and the pink slime makes it healthier?

No offense, but the only response I can think of is "no shite."
