Frick this sucks, wish they go ahead and pay him so we can tag Nicks. I'll say this if we let Nicks and Colston walk away we better be bringing in some serious FA talent on D thats the only thing that would make sense out of letting them both slip away

They want to pay him 14 million instead of 19 or 20 million ! Id they give him a long term contract it will be 19 or 20, if they franchise him it will be 14. They screwed up not getting this done LAST year.

I think they've offered him a lot of money and I think he wants to be anywhere but the a$$hole and armpit (Cleveland)of America. Enjoy this franchise year.

Peter King tweeted that he thinks they offered him in the 20-21 Mill range and he is looking for 24. Now, that Peter King, but if true, it would explain the lack of a deal. That is a big difference.

I'm pretty certain something will get done before Monday. The FO leverage is all but gone, and the threat of losing 2 of their core players should get some movement going.

I would agree with that, but I think Colston hits the market no matter what. The FA crop of WR is deep and his price will not be as high. They will let him test and Nicks, probably, won't be a Saint next season.

Well yeah. What I meant is if they tag Brees, they're losing Nicks and Colston. If they get a deal done, they'll only lose one main guy.

If that's true, were not talking a HUGE difference. All this crap about "negotiations are far apart" is stuff put out there by Brees's agent to get the fanbase to freak out. And it's working. Both sides know their leverage and I expect a deal to get done this weekend. The Saints want to be able to keep at least 2 of the "big 3" for next year (preferably by signing Brees and franchising one of the other 2). Brees wants to get paid well, and rightfully so, but I really don't think he wants to leave NOLA and Payton's offense. Plus, I doubt he demands a few more million per year at the expense of losing either Colston or Nicks, which ultimately could hurt the prospects of this team's recent great success.

Holy shite that's a huge contract. Goddamn.
I really expected something in the 17 mill per year range, a lot of it guaranteed and a lot of the salary backloaded.
I did not expect 21-24 mill. Wow.
