It must really suck for the Hoffman's to watch this show. In one day, a single ship pull 45 oz of gold. That's almost half of what the Hoffman's got in an entire season.

It's really not a bad show. There's a little artificial drama, but at least, these guys appear to know what they are doing. Some of the drama isn't artificial. It's hard to fake one of the cast members getting shanked during the second episode.

It's interesting to see all those jacked up barges on the water trying to pull that gold. Shite weather there for the other nine months of the year.

I watch both Gold Rush and Bering Sea Gold.

The Hoffman's drive me nuts, especially Todd. He is a complete idiot.
I can't believe how much GOLD is in the bering sea. These guys hit paydirt 100 feet off the beach. Crazy!!

I watch both shows. It really is amazing the amount of gold off those beaches.

shite I've got 30k. I could build me a little dredge. I could be open water certified by the summer. Of course, these guys are not even certified.

I just hated the intro ad for the show.

"the kind of bills I have, if you don't pay you go to jail!"

What type of debts are these. We have debtors prisons???

True.

But that has nothing to do with gold. And has to be percentage of income.

Gold is usually found in the old stream beds. It is so heavy that lighter rock is washed away and the gold accumulates. What they are finding off shore is from the remnants of stream beds where they go out into the ocean. Miners couldn't get to it during the gold rush because they did not have the technology. Most of the gold fields have already been worked over several times. You should see the area around Dawson City, there is churned up gravel and ponds everywhere from all the exploration over the last 120 years.

The golden sands of Nome. Been like that for over 100 years. Not sure if anyone watches those gold panning shows on the Outdoor Netowork, but they have a camp outside of Nome. The mini dredge has allowed people to extract gold where it wasn't possible except by large scale processing before. I spent a summer near Skagway, Dyea and Haines, AK looking for gold one year.

How did you do that summer looking for gold?

Eh, didn't go great. Found about 4 oz's and the price was about 950/oz. Lots of it was looking for gold in areas where it was uncertain though, so I consider it a success. Just prospecting the old fashioned way with pan, and bringing in the mini dredge to process the gravels.

You can still do this near Nome as well, not sure what kind of quantities you can expect. Lots of seasonal prospectors up that way.
