I have an 18 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. He gets 20-25 miles a week of road work in and has energy to burn. At about the 4 mile mark on a run he settles in. My wife has lost 38 lbs since July working that dog (after two kids and 8 years of marriage she had gained a few). He's still on his first bed. It could be that we just got lucky but I think the energy burn is mostly to thank. He also has a fenced in back yard. There has been some minor digging but nothing extreme. Had I not waited until my life had the time to be fair to the dog and had I not done my research to know what I was getting myself and my family into it would have been a miserable 18 months with a 100lb wad of muscle and energy.
