LSU Basketball with #1 Hardest SoS in conference

Need ESPN Insider to access but LSU has had the hardest schedule in the country since starting conference play.
ESPN RPI
We all knew the first half of the SEC schedule was brutal but this backs it up. Hopefully we can capitalize on the back half, get some road wins and finish 4-2 or 5-1 with some serious momentum going into New Orleans.
Huge huge huge game against Moo St tomorrow. They win that and can spark a big run. A loss gets you to 4-7 and an big uphill battle.

Yeah, if we can win tomorrow night, I love our chances of making it to the NIT

CBS has us at #3 and ESPN has us at #1 SOS. Either way, it has been a tough road playing some top competition. Im looking forward to some games that we should be able to win.

If we lose tomorrow, its over IMO.

It is a shame that the schedule fell the way it did...the games that not long ago looked like fairly easy wins may not be so. Georgia and Tennessee were sucking a couple weeks ago, but both are playing much better now and won't be as easy as they might have been a month ago.

Tomorrow night is the tipping point for the team. Beat Mississippi State and put yourself in position for a late run with the easier opponents coming up to MAYBE make the NCAAT. Lose and we're definitely out short of winning the SECT. TJ got a huge gift with 4/5 Bama starters being suspended this last weekend, a gift in which he almost squandered away. If he wants to keep his job I'm doing anything possible to beat Mississippi State tomorrow night and then finish it up strong winning at least 3/5 of final 5 games.

Disagree with you, but only because I still believe that 9-7 and two wins in the SEC tournament will get LSU in the NCAAs. And 9-7 is still on the table with a loss tomorrow.
Obviously, beating State gives the Tigers a cushion game in the last five, but LSU CAN win all five of those games.
It's just a shame to see "fans" looking for any reason they can to shovel dirt on a bunch of college kids.

I always chuckle at the way you think of things.

Im still not so sure on this. I said from the start I thought 10 wins were required, and I still feel that. Really because we didn't beat a single team we shouldn't have. 10-6 assumed 2 wins over teams that we should probably lose to. Alabama unfortuantely had noone on their roster which took that big win away from us.
We are now sitting with 4 wins in conference that we were suppose to win and 6 losses that we were suppose to take. LSU needed to win a game that was a surprise. That is why I think the State game is very important. We need a big victory against a teak that is seen as better than us. It is a home game which wont help as much but it will be a win over a top 50 RPI team. Depending on how the SEC ends I think LSU could possibly get into the NCAA's with a 9 win season, but only if everything goes our way and we somehow end up in 4th place. with 10 wins I think we can end in 5th place and still get into the tournament. Obviously a big SEC tournament could change what people think of this team so I won't say anything is impossible with 9 wins.

If we lose tomorrow then win out there is no chance we make the tournament without winning the SECT. Have you looked at our RPI and quality wins?
We are currently #78, as in, WAY OUT...lose tomorrow and we're around 80 at that point. Beating a bunch of patsies to close out will not improve that enough to be NCAAT worthy. Ole Miss is the only decent team in our final 5-game stretch and they still aren't even an RPI Top 50 team. The other 4 teams all have RPIs north of 100. We have a whopping 3 RPI Top 100 wins with only 1 of those being RPI Top 50 in Marquette which is a signature win, but not even close to enough quality wins to be in the tournament. 9-7 in a bad conference with 3 quality wins will not make it, sorry. Maybe if we didn't lose to the likes of Coastal Carolina and USA...but we lost and those were really bad losses.

4 wins in conference that we were suppose to win
RPI:
Kentucky .6565
Florida .6280
Vanderbilt .6115
Alabama .6082
Mississippi State .5985
Ole Miss .5790
Arkansas .5665
LSU .5616
Georgia .5337
Tennessee .5165
Auburn .5170
South Carolina .4963
I see one win over a team with a lesser RPI (Auburn), with 4 games against those below us, plus a game with a team we beat already.
I don't think losing to State really takes that much off the table, to be honest.
ETA: Sorry.... I used statistics and facts to make my case.... I promised I would stop doing that. Strike whatever I said.

What's so funny about that? You think if he loses to MSU and finishes off 6-10 he will be retained?

Sheep we're not making it in at 9-7 +2 tournament wins after losing to Mississippi State. That would be a solid NIT resume.

I hope you dont honestly believe that RPI is a good indication that we should win a game or not... Arkansas hasn't won a game on the road all season... We should win that. Ole Miss at home are you kidding me? They were playing like crap. The game before us they beat powerhouse Southern Methodist 50-48 and lost the 3 previous to Dayton, Middle Tenn, and Southern Miss. Auburn is plain bad, and Alabama was missing 4 of their 5 starters...
Numbers are good, but you have to use the right ones.

Depends on how the rest of the conference plays out, also.
If 9-7 gets you to 5th in the conference standings, and you're in the last four of the SEC tournament, it may not be an automatic in, but we'll be DAMN close.
At that point, it's going to depend on which mid-majors win their tournament, if anyone forces their way in like UConn 2011 or Georgia 2008, etc.
Either way, what I'm saying is that the season isn't "over", no matter what happens tomorrow. There's still plenty to play for.
I just struggle to see what joy people find in proclaiming "they're done!"
They were doing that after we lost to Arkansas on the road.
In mid-January.
Just like every other SEC team that's been there did.

If we lose tomorrow and finish off 9-7 the committee won't give us a second look for at-large with what our RPI will be and lack of quality wins. With 2 SECT wins that'd be only 1 more quality win, for a total of FOUR RPI Top 100 wins on the year. You really think 9-7 in the 5th best conference and 4 RPI Top 100 wins = tourney? Hell no.

I said I would stop posting facts and stats, so we'll just call 5th close enough.

Just trying to figure out why you think 9-7 in the SEC and 4 RPI Top 100 wins will be even close for a tourney look. Our RPI will be 55-60 at best. Our RPI is currently 78, I repeat, SEVENTY-EIGHT.

What 4 conferences do you have in front of the SEC this year?
