Can a BR local please inform this transplant as to why Ivar's is such a popular spot? Is it the location? The atmosphere? The food?

It can't possibly be the alcohol (which is generally why I go to bars). For a local watering hole, it's way too expensive. The bartenders are clueless (if you don't know what a 'neat' drink is you shouldnt be tending bar), the selection is mediocre at best, and the draft beers are ALWAYS ruined by poor maintenance of the draft lines. I have literally never had one draft beer there that wasn't tainted by their dirty lines, yet no one seems to notice/care. It boggles my mind that anyone who actually appreciates good alcohol would ever step foot in that place

I agree with you. The bar sucks and the staff is terrible.

I love the sign advertising $3.50 bud light draft all day. Great deal right there

I do agree on the disgusting tap lines and the ridiculous prices. That being said, Baton Rouge doesn't have that much to offer (bar wise) in my opinion.

Ivar's should be called "company policy" everyone goes there, nobody has a clue why, and it really makes no sense whatsoever...

True.. There's the Cove and the Londoner, but both of them are too far away for your typical nightcap. Still, if I'm near my house, I would much rather go to Zee Zee's or Chelsea's or even Duvic's than drink some mildewed Bud Light for five bucks a pop at Ivars

It reminds me a lot of Neil's in Memphis. Grody establishment, rude management, poor service, crusty regulars who belong in a museum..At least Neil's kept the lines clean and the staff knew their booze.

Seems like it's xpensive and I've notice rude behavior before from a couple skanks behind the bar.

I always used to like the place though.

That is what Finn's charges for NOLA Blonde pints.

What a joke.

I think we can safely assume there is a wild gulf between the beer knowledge of Ivars regulars and the beer knowledge of Finn's regulars.

I used to love that place back in college

but I went back a couple years ago after not having been in about 10 years, I could not fricking believe how downright filthy it was. I had no clue dust could aggregate on wires, fan blades and window sills to that degree.

clean the damn bar
