Anything you recommend? Just got a new system, wouldn't mind getting a game to go with it.

Portal 2 is good. If you have a PS3, buy a copy for that and it comes with a code to download it for your PC.

Well I'm not sure with PC games, I haven't really used my PC as a gaming machine. But with my new system, I can. The last PC game I played was Doom 3.

DOSbox is high on my list of best computer programs ever developed. It's amazing how well those Apple II or Windows 3.0 oriented games run. Although some pieces of shite like Privateer 2 and Ultima VIII will crash the client and possibly your computer just because they were designed to inflict pain.

I would look at:
Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City
Skyrim
Portal 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Team Fortress 2 (oh look it's Free)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Civ 5
Battlefield 3
Witcher 1/2

Can't go wrong with the original Deus Ex, either. Cheap on Steam and it has aged very well.

Also:

Anything by Bioware (Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening, Mass Effects, even Jade Empire Special Edition. Steer clear of Dragon Age II).
Beyond Good and Evil
Fallout 3 and New Vegas

There are also some good games on Steam for $10 or less if you're more interested in killing time than testing the limits of your new rig.

Except for the walking noise.

I'd add:

Bulletsorm - Surprised how much I like this game.
Starcraft 2 - Because it's Starcraft

I downloaded Railroad Tycoon II to the other day for 5 bucks. Got my money worth already.

Bastion is also a hidden gem on Steam. Really, that game is amazing given its production value. Possibly the best narration of all time, too.
