Top recruiting class does not equal top ranked football team

This is why I see no reason to freak about not having a top 10 recruiting class.
Look at 2007 recruiting class. LINK
USC, Florida, South Carolina, Texas and Tennessee are the top 5. Where were those teams ranked at the end of the 2011 season? Tennessee, Texas and Florida are all outside of the top 25.
Go look at the other years and you will see similar information. Sure LSU had the 6th ranked class in 2007, but where was Alabama? Number 17.
Fear not Tiger Faithful. This class may not be exactly what everyone wanted, but it WILL NOT ruin our program, I don't expect it to put any damper on our program at all. These guys want to be here and want to play hard in purple and gold. I'm glad they are here!

I got into it with a buddy of mine about this, that is what made me go look it up. And the proof is in the pudding here. I also heard on the radio here in Houston an interview with the Editor of ESPN Magazine and he was saying that you look at NFL draft picks and a lot of them were not 4 or 5 star recruits. The correlation between the 2 is as close awfully close to zero.

Toward the positive yes, but does it mean that because you have a top 10 recruiting class that 3-4 years later you will be a top 10 team? No it doesn't.
My point in all of this is that this won't kill us.

why did LSU play the worst college football championship game in 100 years

I do agree that 4 and 5 star recruits sometimes (or many times) do not play to the level of expectations. I remember Miami winning NC's with a ton of 3 star recruits. It's all about talent evaluation and getting the most out of the talent on hand. Thus far, I think CLM has done a decent job considering the bottom line (winning).

USC finished 6th, despite being on probation with no bowl eligibility.
South Carolina finished 10th.
UF and Tennessee both underwent HC changes since then, and Texas experienced a few major coaching changes too.
While it's not a sure bet that because you're the #1 recruiting class that you're guaranteed a MNC, you'll be pretty damned competitive, anyway.

5 stars: 7
4 stars: 12
3 stars: 10
2 stars: 3
60% of players taken in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft were 4 or 5 stars. You know why most taken weren't 4 or 5 star recruits? Because the NFL draft has way more picks than 4 or 5 star draft eligible players.

our coach was to busy BBQ'ing with Ensminger instead of figuring out a new game plan. Thought the same offensive game plan from 11/5 would work again. Hardheadedness.
