LSU: LSU returns a ton of young talent on defense next season, but the Tigers are losing all three of their starting linebackers. They made that a priority in this class, and picked up at least five players projected to play linebacker at the college level. Leading the way was ESPNU 150 outside linebacker Kwon Alexander of Oxford, Ala. He picked LSU over Auburn. Ronnie Feist of Edgard, La., was another ESPNU 150 linebacker to sign with the Tigers, while quarterback Jeremy Liggins of Oxford, Miss., was a nice late pickup.

ESPN grade: B+

I'm usually not a "ESPN loves Bama" guy but did they forget he also spurned the Gumps?

The guy is to good for a grey shirt offer and that is all he had from Bama.

Who said that? And you can believe what you want. Kwon would be at Bama now if not for the grey shirt offer. Just be glad...ya'll got a kid who has a great up side if he can recover from the knee injury. I wish Bama would have taken him personally.

I give ESPN a "D" for not doing the work necessary to proclaim anything in recruiting.

This is part of football the less sophisticated does not understand - as far as the Devall/Alexander "crossover" for lack of a better term:

The offenses going in different directions after November 5th notwithstanding, the 2 best teams in CFB in 2011 were Bama and LSU, and by a significant margin - Devall is a much better fit at Bama in the 3-4 they run - likewise Alexander is much better for Chavis' defense.

While both schools would have liked both players, each school got the best player out of the pair for their needs. Pre-injury, I would have said Alexander was slightly better - post injury, it's about a pick em. Devall may end up playing at 250 or 255 pounds, Alexander may end up 235 - they're different players physically - Devall has good straight line speed and is very strong - Kwon is another freak, athletically, but one built to play linebacker in a 4-3.

If he has recovered from his injury fully, I think he is the most likely to play significantly as a true freshman, of all of the incoming LBers (although I think 2 or 3 may play relatively early).

Bama would have pulled someone else's scholy like he did Philon's. Don't kid yourself.

I would say that's about right. This class has a bunch of talent that will continue to be developed. Solid class but is lacking the "star power" required to get an "A" from ESPN. Needs met in a big way, solid group, injuries lowered the rankings of two fo our prospects otherwise we probably would've been top 7 on ESPN.

I don't think Bama got a B+ in 2010.
