What is the OB's choice? I typically just buy a couple of the little pflueger light spinning reels at academy every year. I have to do this every year cause I have shitty friends who break my shite when I let them borrow it. This year however I am looking to get something maybe a little nicer and actually take care of it. What say you guys?

I use a small Johnny Morris spinning reel with the lightest braided line I can find. Where I fish, I catch a lot bass while white perch fishing around alot of structure. I don't lose as many baits getting hung up and I can fight the bigger fish without worrying about breaking my line. Sounds crazy using braid but it works for me.

Zebco 22 or JB Salter Jigging Pole.
I think I may get an ultralight spinning reel this year and try it out though.
These have always intrigued me as well.

I've never used a hair jig in my life.
Work better than the plastic tubes?

I have 3 very light spinning rigs I use. My favorite by far is a $20 Quantum Optix you can get at Walmart or Academy on a very light action Falcon HD.
I bought a $9 Berkley rod that would be fine if it had one more guide. I am learning why not having enough matters. The line wraps around the blank on light pitches.

I find that you dont have to change them as often. Alot of times a big crappie will frick a tube jig off, and theyre always slipping off the head.. Hair jigs the way to go if you are jigging IMO

Small spinning reel or zebco on ultralight rod with 10lb powerpro and hooks that I can straighten out when I get hung up a million times.

JB Salter Jigging Pole.
Biggest POS and yes, I know the dude. I have a uncle that use to fish with him all the time. He told me that JB couldn't find a fish on his own if it were to save his life.
Before he close the old Western Auto were he sold those POS, I was there getting some tires. Well he was trying to sell one to some dumb arse and was showing how to flip a jig. Me standing there, JB asked if I would like to try and was stating it takes years to learn how to do it. First try, I'm a flipping MOFO. He states that I must own one of his POS. I look at him and flat out told him I would never buy this heavy POS. In fact he couldn't give me one.

The dude he was trying to sell

One does better buying an 8'-9' lite flyrod and a good spinning reel when fishing brush like fishing Old River. Now if you are fishing the outside of the brush, I use a ultralite spinning reel on a 5 1/2' rod. Sometimes I will use a bigger rod. For line, 4lb test florocarb. Once the sun is up, I will switch to 8lb test line.

I am one sac a lait catching MOFO. I had a old man show me well over 30 years ago the do's and don'ts. When it comes to fishing them, lighter and much better.
Tube v hair. My take is both work great. A big factor is the weight of the jig along with color second. Weight is a very big key in fishing them. Jigging them, I use 1/32oz and sometimes set up to 1/8oz. Now using tubed jigheads, look for the flat heads. The reason is that you get more action out of them due to the fact that on the drop, they will swim better then just dropping down.
Hair jigs and what to look for. Look for ones that have some tin tied in. That extra silver will help.
Now what else y'all want to know?

That can happen. I'm just waiting for the Mississippi River to go into another slow drop. I was planning on hitting Old River this weekend coming, but it looks like a shite load of rain. Once the river does what I want, I will be just about living at my camp there and I'm always looking to have someone to fish with me on the week days. Lake Larto should be turnning on good back in the bayous off the main lake about now.

Its not. Why you ask.

Forgot. They also hit lighter when the sun is up higher too. I'm not a fan braid line for Sac's
