Well how about we let Jimbo 3rd season play out before all the comparisons?
Jimbo walked into a situation where he should have been able to win big right off.

I forgot in what draft was Christian Ponder a top 5 pick
What draft it was, wasn't the point.
You missed the point. I said that because it would have had to been a draft in the CFL or XFL or something else because Christian ponder went number 12 in the NFL draft and was a shocker at 12.

That was my bad, I was thinking about 1st rd and not top 5. My apologizes
I don't expect you to know or understand the situation FSU was in when Jimbo finally took over. It was far from walking in and winning big.

Ponder wasn't top 5 draft pick and tbh that single pick was the biggest "WTF?" moment of the NFL draft.
My bad, for some reason I was thinking about 1st rd and not Top 5.

FSU consistently had top 5-top 10 recruiting classes even in bobby's last years...it was a situation where a top coach could come in win big and go to a bcs bowl in a weak ACC. IMO Jimbo isnt a bad coach just not elite....seems to be on the mark richt path....JMO.

i'm part of the crowd that doesn't have much for miles as far as a gameday coach. in fact, ithink he sucks at it. BUT i do believe he is the best recruiter we've had at lsu, including satan, and i think his kids truly like him, and play their hearts out for him. it's too bad fsu isn't in the sec. they would get their asses handed to them on a regular basis. my neices dad is the ex president at fsu,and his outlook was they could be the big fish in a little pond if they weren't in the sec. ny nephew and niece as well as my sister and brother in law live in tallahassee, and they are all florida fans except my niece. they say fsu will never be in the sec.

Ricardo Louis just decommited and will announce on signing day.
I like Auburn's chances now. He ain't kicking our arse. Speak for yourselves.

I'll give you some behind the scenes example. While Jimbo was HCIW he was 4th in ranking when it came to power. Bobby, Mickey Andrews, Chuck Amato, Rick Trickett, then Jimbo. The only thing he had some control of was the offense, he wasn't able to implement any of his philosophies for the program until after he took over. Saban didn't leave LSU screwed up when he left. Chuck Amato punched Jimbo in front of the players on the plane. RB coach Dexter Carter knocked out DE coach Jody Allen in the locker room for using racial slurs(I think he called him a boy or something like that).

Hard to develop players with this, and one of the reasons our D was so bad(ranked in the 100's) before Jimbo hired Stoops.
OC Jeff Bowden(Who knows probably in Akron)
De Jody Allen(DC West Georgia..lol)
Asst HC LB Chuck Amato(Had retired, now is at Akron with Terry Bowden)
RB Dexter Carter(Coaching at some HS in Florida...LMAO!!)
Asst HC. DC Mickey Andrews(His heart had been left the game, plus he was dealing with his son blowing his brains out on the front porch of their home)
Basically Jimbo wasn't able to do anything until he took over completely. The S&C and nutrition program was a joke.

I think a Juco OL that we were both after committed to us today. But Ricardo committed to us right after his visit, but I think we can get him back after Jimbo's in-home on Friday. If not, I would hate to lose him, but it shouldn't hurt us because we are pretty deep and young at WR, and 2013 is a better yr for WR's in Florida.

quote:You could still make the case, if you were a devious Jimbo Fisher, that Les is winning, but winning ugly, doesn't know how to get the playmakers the ball, and is a poor gameday coach. It's been on TV quite a bit in case you haven't noticed.
I know which is why its kind of shocking that the "dumber" Les Miles had similar success record wise, won more big games, and went to more prestigious bowls at Okie state by his 3rd year there than Jimbo has at FSU.
I'm not saying its all true, just that Jimbo could easily make the case, if he was a backstabber, that Les may win some games but that's not the whole story.

I don't know what to think with Watson going to y'all. We're in on Armstead, Diamond, and Young. We got 3 guys committed right now, and I have no idea if we'll land any of those 3 I just mentioned.
Seems like Auburn and FSU are going head to head on a few. Lord knows we both need numbers. We are planning on signing 25, and we got 16 right now (15 on scout rankings because of the transfer FB).
Gonna be interesting come NSD and the day after.

i mean....they were preseason Top 5 and look what they acco........oh wait.
FSU is a good program that offers nice facilities and the chance to bring back a program.
Done very well this year despite a disappointing season. Have done a great job of hanging on to those kids who committed early.

Yeah after y'all got Lemonier and Therezie, I was really hoping to keep Ricardo and because he is good. But WR is not a position of need for us right now.

You must not remember that Jimbo Fisher was a monster recruiter at LSU. According to some said we should have hired way back when.
The problem was he was over shadowed by bigger monster recruiters we had. He never recruited a lot of players in one class like a couple other coaches but those he recruited he landed some decent players out of there.

FSU has always recruited well but Fisher has kicked it up a notch over the last few years of Bowden. The reasons are mainly that he's hitting the right spots where FSU is very popular(AL/southern GA),UF and Miami are down(UF still recruits at a very high level though),he's selling a dream that can't be recruited against just yet(another disappointing year next year may begin to kick that door down) and he has a majorly badass recruiting staff. Go take a gander at the staff he has and you'll get a better understanding of how they are pulling these kids. 3 names tell the story. James Coley(top notch recruiter that acts just like the kids he recruits), Eddie Gran(may be the best FL recruiter in the country) and Dameyune Craig(the best young recruiter in the country aside from Tosh Lupoi). Fisher learned very well from the Saban coaching class and has used his knowledge the best of all the Saban coaching tree. Problem is that he just isn't a good HC imo. He's a good ceo type HC but he needs big time coaches around if he's going to be successful.

1st season 10-4
2nd season 9-4
Year 3 he got to win the conference.
But that is still better than 3(Bobby last seasons) consecutive 7-6 seasons.

JMO elite coaches who walked into situations with talent and no coaching turned it around on the spot in more competitive conferences-Bob Stoops went undefeated and won NC in his second year, in his second year at each program Nick Saban at LSU won the SEC, and at bama he went 12-0 in the regular season and the next year won an NC, Urban Meyer second year was a 1 loss NC, Jim Tressell went undefeated with an NC in his 2nd year. The elite guys have been able to win on the spot when the previous guy had brought in talent but didnt develop it. I wont write Jimbo off just yet but IMO, as an outsider, in the ACC he should be doing better with the talent he walked into.
