You are not the first one to mention Jim Bowie's shot over the lights in rightfield as one of the longest home runs in Alex Box history.
Back to basketball, I wasn't at the game 30 years ago tonight, but I was at the 2 OT victory over Purdue in round 1 of the 1986 NCAA Tourny.

Missed that game but went to the Memphis st. game. I remember celebrating for about 15 minutes.

"If you didn't get in line at least two hours before the gates opened for the student section you might have gotten turned away."
Fact.
Or if you knew one of the ticket-takers, like an older buddy of mine did. The noise, the emotion at the Assembly Center in those days was like a controlled riot.

Missed both of those but I was at the old Omni a week later when we beat #1 seed Kentucky 59-57 to go to the Final Four.

Yep, chicken pox hit half of the team.

Was anyone else at the Tennessee game a few weeks after this game when the clock malfunctioned and Tennessee basically got two extra seconds and won at "the buzzer".
Still ticks me off. Good thing for the Vols and refs it was Mardi Gras weekend. I thought it was poetic justice in 2010 when the football game vs them "ended" the way it did.

His name is not pronounced like the American David.
It is pronounced Dah-veed.
I met DT when he was here a few years back when the whole team reunited for the KY game. I got to meet a bunch of his teammates.
DT and I went to Ninfa's and drank 'ritas with Leonard Mitchell. Both were very nice guys.
Dems were fun times.

His mother was a teacher of mine at the time at Sherwood Middle in Baton Rouge. I have a signed picture of that shot in the attic someplace.

Oh, and yes, I was at that Tenn game also, I think the guys who tipped it in was named Dan Fetterman or Fedderman? Something like that. They got about 1.9 extra seconds or something like that. Man, those were the days of LSU BB. I was there when Kyle Macy drained a 25 footer or so at the buzzer also. That one was a helluva game right there. Evem tho we lost.

I was there. Barkley was an unknown freshman, but a fricking hoss on the inside that night.

Derrick was a year behind me at Redemptorist, so I had the pleasure of watching "Baby Magic" play for 7 years (along with Hi-C and "Disco" Dwayne DeArmond -RIP).
Everyone talks about the present being the golden age of football ... the late 70's and early 80's were the golden age of LSU basketball. I'm not sure we'll ever see the Deaf Dome rocking like it did back then.

I was at the game. Another reason the Assembly Center went crazy after he made the shot was that it kept LSU's home winning streak alive from the 81 teams Final Four run. I think they were at 30 games.

he had an issue with a history professor, Roider?. Seems like it kinda ugly for awhile with the AD and A&S.
Roider was actually pretty cool. He was Chair of the History Dept., and eventual Dean of A&S. I had a seminar w/ him and he was great.
There was, however, another history prof (female) who shall remain nameless that more than one athlete had issues with...she made her disdain for them all too obvious.
