Agreed. We scout OL better than any team in the NFL.

DLP had an INSANELY good year on the screens. That mother fricker is always hauling arse down field out of nowhere. I know he has two top 4 guards in the [espn]National Football League[/espn], but that cracker is fricking legit
I agree. Better than Goody. Still, Nicks is just a fricking monster and I would hate to lose him.

signing a high priced DE when we already have a crap load of money invested at DE.
We have VERY LITTLE money invested on the DE position. Smith is at $7m or so, a bit of a tough cut. Jordan is dirt cheap. Juneyah is dirt cheap. Romeus is dirt cheap. Turk apparently was a 1 year deal (HUGE dissapointment). Charleston is a FA. You're talking maybe $10m invested in 4 DEs right now that you can cut down to about a $6m total (Smith's cap hit + Jordan + Romeus + Juneyah) this season. That's shite. There are single DEs costing $15m or so in a single season this year.

Goout and sign Laron Landry or the saftey from SF if they are left unprotected in Free AGency. There is a CB in Tenn. That would also be a great pick up if Porter was to leave. Draft linebacker and rush ends in the draft.

When I think of people that could have helped us vs. SF covering Vernon Davis, Laron Landry is #1 with a bullet.

I'm talking about Smith's total contract left which could be 26 mil. And they aren't giving up on Jordan this early so they aren't spending big money to make either a 3rd DE.

IMO, Smith is all but gone. There's no way he plays this year under his current contract.

I could be a bit off here (I desperately need to find a site with better info than rotoworldd), but it looks to me that cutting Smith would cost us $4m, and he has a base salary of $7m, so cutting him would SAVE US $3M. No biggie cutting him given that he signed his fat deal way back in '08, when a cab ride from Cooter Browns to Deja Vu cost a nickel.

If only he could stay healthy. We could finally move Harper to Linebacker.

Thanks, but doesn't give guaranteed $, signing bonus, roster bonus, etc.. If those numbers are the base salaries, then they can be useful on account of rotoworld taking down previous years base salaries. Will have to do some comparisons when I sober up + I've been awake for near 32 hours. Kind of a mess. Sorry.

And having those two DE's won't solve our shitty linebacker issue nor will it make Jenkins or Harper be able to cover freaking Tight Ends in clutch situations.

Colston must be resigned. Without him it's just Graham and Sproles as the majority in the passing game, possibly Moore as well. We also can't count on Moore to be our #1 WR consistently.

If we sign Colston and Nicks we retain the #1 offense of all time basically.
The arguments for letting Nicks go are that we find great O-linemen later in the draft and coach them up extremely well. It is a stretch to say put Tennant in at Center and slide DLP to Guard, nothing proven here.
The argument for letting Colston go is that the free agent WR crop is simply amazing, some great players out there. And that when Colston is hurt Brees has still passed for a bunch of yards. We don't have anyone on the team who does what Colston does, and the free agent WR's don't either. I also don't buy the approach that some WR's would sign for less to play in this offense for 1 year.
Already bringing in a new DC coach should fix some worries, and some young players might even have breakout seasons. Spags might move Jenkins back to not having to defend the entire backend of the field by himself. The Saints might only need to bring in 1 or 2 free agent defensive players to make an impact, and if that is too expensive having 2 rather than 1 we would just have to hope we could hit on a first year impact player in round 2 or 3 of the draft.
The front office knows all things considered the Offense is in a great place and the defense needs a bunch of help, but who knows just bringing in 2 players while getting rid of 3 very unproductive players and allowing some of our younger talent snaps to shine we could be a completely different defense.

A pair of DTs came here to try to win a SB. And you can't even compare what they wanted to do to what a desperate WR would want to do. Someone like Steve Smith (have I mentioned that he's my boy?) or Braylon Edwards, two guys that are coming off of disappointing seasons, are guys that would fricking LOVE having Brees pass to them.

These dudes can't hold Colston's jock especially Braylon who's a scrub.
