So here's the deal:
I'm planning on proposing to my girlfriend in a couple weeks in NO. I'd like to do it before dinner privately and then surprise her by having her family waiting for us at dinner right after. I need a suggestion of a good restaurant, nice but casual, for a party of about 10-12 people, in or around the CBD / warehouse district. I considered Cochon - my girlfriend and I have been wanting to try it for a while. Would anyone recommend this or any others? Thanks in advance.

I guess you're ruling out Subway.

Couchon's is good, but not so romantic.

I assume you're confident of her answer.

And, if you are, I think this is a great idea and I'd bring a video camera to start a tape of all the activities from proposal to the wedding. Ask someone else to tape. I did this for my niece. We had an impromtu party with both sides of the family present the day she returned from New Orleans where her boyfriend surprised her with a proposal. I taped it all and had them both tell the story of the proposal. There were some toasts that night which I also taped. Thereafter, I taped other parties, the rehearsal dinner and the reception. Great gift for them.

You might consider Luke as an option. If you want a room, I believe Emeril's has a small room. Otherwise, it might be too noisy for this particular celebration.

Domenica is something to consider.

OH, and I hope you're damn sure of her answer meeting the in-laws with a, "I'm not sure" answer, might be not so fun.

I love Cochon but that is not romantic or the spot to propose at all.

Le Foret. TRUST ME. (EDIT: Sorry, didn't read the casual part. They are not casual. Why would you want a casual atmosphere for a proposal?)

Betcha didn't think the F&D board would be able to run your life for you AND suggest a great restaurant as well, did you?

BONUS!!!

Honestly, ignore these assholes, plan the event how ever you want.

Oh, and all the suggestions so far are nice and would work well.

I'd add Le Citron Bistro, Cafe Adelaide (little bit exp), 1179 isn't bad and Luke (also a little exp) to the list.

Emeril's is my favorite. You could have drinks at Manning's new restaurant and propse then have dinner at Emeril's.

I think that is such a sweet idea--very thoughtful. Congrats!
