How many of you guys think Mett should throw it 30+ times per game next season?

I sure has hell hope throwing no more than 15 passes a game is good enough to beat every opponent by more than 25.

Not I
Depends on the flow of the game, but I think 20-25 should be adequate if our running game will be as good as it's projected to be.

No sense in putting a 454 into your car if all you are going to do is sit in traffic all day.

The only time LSU should be throwing 25+ times per game is when the running game cannot overpower a team loading up the box, or when turnovers have caused LSU to play from behind.
If LSU doesn't turn the ball over, the O-line should be able to plow through every defense on the schedule next year...with the exception 'Bama...and maybe UGA if there's a rematch in the SECCG.

Assuming 60 to 65 offensive snaps per game, and also assuming we dominate a number of teams (North Texas, Idaho, Towson, Ole Miss), and hold leads in other games late, even a balanced attack will skew towards running against a schedule like that.
Having said that, a truly balanced attack would see between 24 and 27 pass attempts per game - should be be down in the second half against opponents like Florida, Bama and Arkansas (the 3 key regular season tests next year), that might kick it up a bit.
30 is probably too high, just based on the overall makeup of the team and coaching philosphy. However, much below an average of 24 or 25 will mark a status quo. We can still win if it's hyperefficient (70%+ completion, more outs and mid-range balls over the middle than WR screens/quick slants and flats), but it will show we are more committed to running than balance.
If 30+ is too much and 22 or 23 is too little, I guess the sweep spot is about 26 or 27.

I think he should throw 30+ SOME games but not all. We still need to utilize our RBs.

I would rather see less than 30 passes a game. Keep the dominant running game and mix in play action passes. If we pass more than 30 times a game I would think the game is close, we are behind, or our defense sucks.

No way. Not with the running game the Tigers will have in place. Remember too that Mettenberger will be pretty accurate, throwing to some decent receivers which should limit his necessary attempts also. I'm guessing a split in plays something like 25 passing- 40 runs; on average. 430 ypg. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Icongeauxtigers.png)

So what if he does throw it for more than 30 attempts? Will you be butthurt that JJ never had 30 attempts?

I hope we don't have to throw that much, however I think the we should throw it around a good bit early on in the season to establish the passing threat reassure the staff that we can throw it.

And how is this going to beat Alabama's bevy of 5-star DBs, LBs and DL? Alabama did a total beatdown of LSU and has outrecruited LSU every year. What is so difficult to understand? And BTW they have a 5-star plus coach while we have a high school reject coach.

We have a better chance of running the option with Mett.

it should be around 50-50. Having a passing threat will make the running game more effective. We may rush for more yards next year than last year.

if we do not have a dominant offense next year then so help me god i will give coach stud a gastro by pass

Hand off up the middle and short side option 15 consecutive plays. Little need to pass.
Bring back the wishbone and we would never need to pass.
MILES KNOWS OFFENSE !!!

I'd like to see a balance attack in the first 3 quarters. Then grind it out in the 4th. As you get about 64 plays a game (16 per quarter), the split would be 8/8 (run/pass) for the first 3 quarter. If we go with 12/4 in the 4th, that would be 36/28 on the game, but hopefully Mett would only be in for the first 3 quarters. Allowing for a few sacks and/or scrambles (say 3) that would give Mett 21 attempts per game.
So at the end of the year (14 games
) I'd expect his passing stats to look like:
195 completions on 300 attempts (65%) for 2500 yards (12.8 ypc) with 28 TD's and 8 Interceptions.
IDK, too much cool-aid?

I'm not sure we should air it out 30+ each game, but definitely 20+.
