How many of you guys think Mett should throw it 30+ times per game next season?

And the reasoning behind such.

I sure has hell hope throwing no more than 15 passes a game is good enough to beat every opponent by more than 25.

Not I
Depends on the flow of the game, but I think 20-25 should be adequate if our running game will be as good as it's projected to be.

We should probably chuck it around 25-27 times per game next year, & that's if Mett's pilot light it already on.
His arm strength & vertical capability along with our OL's continued improvement will allow us to still be very balanced & very effective running & using PA to open up both the vertical routes, seam routes, edge/boundary throws, as well as our run-game.

With that stable of RB's?
With Jeremy Hill coming in as well?

Do not think LSU needs to significantly throw more, just more consistently and with multiple level routes. 60% run needs to be about 50% run. Balance is important, ask the Saints about throwing 60+ and their record when they do that.

yep. Just go back to the gameplan they had the first few games with JL at center. Pound the ball with RB to set up PA passing attack.

I don't think Mettenberger should throw more than 30 times in any game next year. I would say 20-25 would be good if LSU effectively runs the ball. If the game dictates that we throw 30+ times in a game, I am not opposed to it.

No sense in putting a 454 into your car if all you are going to do is sit in traffic all day.

The only time LSU should be throwing 25+ times per game is when the running game cannot overpower a team loading up the box, or when turnovers have caused LSU to play from behind.
If LSU doesn't turn the ball over, the O-line should be able to plow through every defense on the schedule next year...with the exception 'Bama...and maybe UGA if there's a rematch in the SECCG.

Assuming 60 to 65 offensive snaps per game, and also assuming we dominate a number of teams (North Texas, Idaho, Towson, Ole Miss), and hold leads in other games late, even a balanced attack will skew towards running against a schedule like that.
Having said that, a truly balanced attack would see between 24 and 27 pass attempts per game - should be be down in the second half against opponents like Florida, Bama and Arkansas (the 3 key regular season tests next year), that might kick it up a bit.
30 is probably too high, just based on the overall makeup of the team and coaching philosphy. However, much below an average of 24 or 25 will mark a status quo. We can still win if it's hyperefficient (70%+ completion, more outs and mid-range balls over the middle than WR screens/quick slants and flats), but it will show we are more committed to running than balance.
If 30+ is too much and 22 or 23 is too little, I guess the sweep spot is about 26 or 27.

The offense does not need to be overhauled, they just need to go back to the offense from the first 8 games and add some complexity and spread to the routes. It needs to be more pro-set in the passing game, not Big 10 Michigan in the passing game.

I think he should throw 30+ SOME games but not all. We still need to utilize our RBs.

Pretty much agree. I have no problem using that same offense and having an even bigger play action threat in Mett. And if the run isn't working we should at least be able to throw more if necessary. People that think we are going to start throwing the ball all over are really not getting Les Miles.

I don't think we should throw the ball ever. Not even in 3rd and 15

I would rather see less than 30 passes a game. Keep the dominant running game and mix in play action passes. If we pass more than 30 times a game I would think the game is close, we are behind, or our defense sucks.

Dude, 25 times a game isn't that much. If your best player is your QB, and his best ability is throwing the football, you don't think it's wise to use your best tools available?

Why? There's no need for it.

He won't be the best tool available. The RB's are. Just because everyone is excited about Jefferson leaving and we finally get to see somewhat of a passing game, doesn't mean the offense should linger away from what won so many games in '11.

I say let Mettsiah just line up like this every play
