This season was truly something special. Undefeated at home during the regular season and playoffs, a million records broken, Drew is on fire, and we had tons of momentum heading into this game.
To lose it the way we did was truly a slap in the face. Drew overcame 5 TURNOVERS. Do you realize how insanely awesome that is when the other team knows you have to throw? Then all you have to do is get one stop. One single stop and you blitz with man coverage and let ALEX SMITH, yes Alex Smith, go 85 yards down the field. If GW isn't fired by Monday I don't know what they're waiting for.

Thanks for wasting such a special season you dickhead.

He wouldn't have been able to do that without the defense keeping us in the game.

2 possessions start around the 50, 2 more start in the redzone and we only give 20 points at half, that is why we had a chance to make a comeback, like it or not.

I would say, it wasn't that our defense was great in those situations, more like that is just who the 49ers are. They lead the league in settling for field goals because their offense isn't very good in the red zone. In a way that is what you expect to happen given their field position, so we were average on defense. I know that sounds weird, but in a lot of ways that is why everyone here was so confident going into this game. "You can't beat the Saints if you settle for field goals."

The defense failed on the last two drives because they didn't make them settle for field goals, which is what their offense is known for, end of story.

Its pro football-somedays, you're gonna beat the opposing player and on others, you're gonna get beat. True, maybe better positioning to begin with and keeping things in front of them may had been the way to go on the final drive but it was just a great route and a better pass-TWICE-to the same receiver!!!

Anything to not give the defense credit while we were turning it over every other play in the 1st quarter.

While you're bringing up stats, the Saints D was top 5 in the entire NFL in getting off the field on 3rd downs, so yea, maybe the defense did have something to do with making SF settle for FGs, because that is just what the Saints are, that's what they did in the regular season.

Yes, they did fail at the end. BUt it's not remotely the end of the story. If we don't turn it over FIVE times, the D played well enough early on that we would have been up by 2+ TDs and the final 4 minutes wouldn't have mattered.

At the risk of being called a bandwagon fan (because I don't post here, but am a lifelong Saints fan) I will offer that the seeds of this defeat were sown in the loss to St. Louis. No team this good should lose to a team that bad.

Do the Saints lose this game in the Dome?

Hindsight says that, but we also lost to a 1-12 team and went on to win a Super Bowl.

This statement makes me angry... The key to success is a team effort. While individual players and coaches made mistakes, no one mistake caused the lost! We did not overcome it all. Calm your arse down and regroup during the offseason!

It would be rather crazy to fire a guy not under contract.

I'm pissed off at letting that thing the 49ers call a QB drive 85 yards in 90 seconds. That's the most embarrassing part in all this. Watch next week as that scrub gets destroyed and we're left wondering what could have been.

The first 15-20 minutes were the most embarassing part of this game.

Turning the ball over what seemed like every other time we touched it was woeful.

We had everything but an undefeated season sewn up by the time we played TB, if I remember correctly.

If you actually understand the meaning of the phrase "the seeds of (whatever) were sown in...", your comment makes no sense. Nothing that happened in St. Louis "caused" this loss or "grew into" the reason that caused this loss. Maybe what you meant to say is that the game showed the team could be beaten or that you could put pressure on Brees. That would be correct. However, in reaction to that game, the team actually improved and played much better the rest of the season.

the reason he is saying the STL game caused this particular loss is if we win that game we play in the superdome and blow out the 9ers...
