A lowly gump's opinion on the BCSNCG

One of the strangest games I have ever watched. It was hard to enjoy it from the Bama POV until Richardson scored. You kept expecting for LSU to have that turnaround play and get the momentum as they have done so many times.
I really think that game was only one play away from being a different game (At least until halfway through the 4th.) LSU got off to slow starts (Relatively slow starts as they still were dominant in most circumstances) in other games this season only to have a single lynchpin play get the ball rolling. It was a similar feeling to when the Saints used to play the 49er’s and you just knew that Young or Montana were going to figure out a way to break our hearts.
As for the criticism of Miles for sticking with his gut feeling and keeping Jefferson in the game, I cannot disagree with Les. When Les won his BCS championship, he went with his gut feeling several times with high-risk moves and play calls and it worked a lot more often than it didn’t. You cannot enjoy having a gambler as head coach without the expectation that the gambler will sometimes bust.
I was one of those folks who had a feeling that Miles was living off Saban. I was completely wrong. Les has an inimitable style all his own and has had an incredible tenure as HC at LSU. While he lost the last game, 2011 may have been one of the finest seasons of football any NCAA team has ever played. Miles gets more right than wrong and he probably more committed to the community, the school and the players than any coach in the SEC.

Damn shame a Gump has to come over to the Rant and talk sensible....

this is actually a decent conciliatory post and my gut tells me you're not just mocking us.
Nonetheless, GTFO SEC W Runner Up. 9-6

Nice post, but it is diffiult to describe LSU's offensive coaching effort as anything but indefensible, and with all due respect, I don't think you made a very good argument to the contrary. It was not a gamble to stick with JJ and the game plan that were failing miserably; it was just wrongheaded. Also, I think the "Miles as gambler" notion is way overplayed and largely inaccurate, but I will leave that for another day.
Again, nice post, and congrats on the BCS title.

Holy crap, you're more sane than 70% of the posters on this board.
Thanks, gump.

A gimp that thinks miles made the right choose by sticking with JJ.

Bottom line it was just ONE game. Yes of course it was the ONE game we wanted, needed to win more than any of the others but still just one game. Think about it like this we are still very much in that game up until the 4th quarter. Look how fast we erased 14 points against Arkansas. From an offensive stance it was as bad as it gets. Granted Bama defense was the reason it was bad but things could have been done different. I am just tired of focusing on the negatives. Man our D played their asses off and most of them will be back next year.

Hey Gump please do not try and talk sense on this board. Besides we hate your guts until we beat your butts Saturday Night in November. Can't wait ....

quote:Very gracious and classy of you to post this. I agree with you except the part that you agreed with Miles sticking with JJ. Your gut is not always right and you sometimes have to use your head. I think Miles uses his gut much more than his head. It could be argued all day whether that is a good or bad thing!

Talked to a couple of Bama fans the other day, they are happy that the Tide won but said they almost walked away from watching the game with an empty feeling.
They said it was almost like the tigers did not give them the game even THEY (Bama) expected.
Maybe it is the SEC fan that is coming out now, wanting to show the rest of the country that this WAS the best game, as it turned out…well we all saw what happened.
Still has everyone scratching their head.

This is a valid point. We take for granted the very high risk, often ridiculous when you think about it, plays that CLM has called in the past.
Of course I'd a been plenty happy if he would have tried something crazy, even had it failed... just to know he was thinking about ways wo win, instead of the blank stare he had most of the game.
Either way, it was only one game and I for one would be very upset if Les were to leave. I'll take the tons of good we have gotten from CLM, over the very few bad.
