Where can you sell your wine collection?

A buddy of mine has about 300 diffrent bottles of wine left over from when he used to own a restaurant, some worth quite a bit. I looked into ebay for him, but apparently you need to have special licenses and there are several shipping restrictions. Anyone have any experience in this?

Don't sell the wine on e-bay, sell the collectable bottles. Just happen to be unopened.

He could always sell them at auction. Not sure if the major auction companies still sell of wine but I know that they used to: Chirstie's, Sotherby's, etc.

I doubt he could get retail or even wholesale for them. I might try selling some ones on craigs list. Heck depending on how much discount he's thinking, I might buy some. He must know some other rest owners who might take them. Just start spreading the word.

This. I would tell him to contact local wine shops and restaurants.

Is wine in BR? Does he have an inventory list?

That's always a debatable point.
Tell him to go by Calandros Perkins and Mathernes Perkins and talk to those guys. I doubt if they will buy them but they know a lot of people with private collections and should be able to point him in the right direction.
It will always depend on the wine.

How were they stored?
this is the most important question
No matter the vintage if they were stored incorrectly, will have a hard time selling

If he is in Baton Rouge, have him contact Martin Wine Cellar. I'm pretty sure they can help with something like this.

Contact the sommelier of every restaurant in NOLA.

Still working on the list, as for how they were stored. Some in wine coolers, some on a big wine rack in his house. I know next to nothing about wine so I have no idea if this was correct or not.
