Your Top Ten for the 2011 Year in Music

Well, we’ve closed the books on 2011 and before BearTiger shows up to do the TV/Movie poll, I’d like to get the MTV board’s thoughts on the year in pop music. It was a solid year with lots of good releases but few, if any, great ones. So there should be a huge diversity in ballots with lots of different stuff mentioned. This was definitely a year without critical consensus (except for the grossly overrated Wye Oak).
Anyway, post your ballots in this thread for your top ten releases of the year. I’ll try and compile and release our consensus list.
But before we do, let’s reflect again on how awesome 2010 was. With a year of perspective, I’m just shocked how great that year was as there were probably 30 releases that had they come out this year, I would’ve put ‘em on my top 10 of 2011.
Look at the bands who may have released their best album of their career in 2010: The National, New Pornographers, Ted Leo, Midlake, LCD Soundsystem, John Mellencamp, Frightened Rabbit, Dr. Dog, Talib Kweli, and Arcade Fire. Furthermore, we had either debut or at least early career albums from new bands such as Titus Andronicus, Surfer Blood, John Ritter, Free Energy, Deer Tick, Mumford & Sons, Tokyo Police Club, Henry Clay People, Trampled by Turtles, Motion City Soundtrack, Frog Eyes, and Vampire Weekend. And that’s leaving out sustained excellence from established acts like the hold Steady, Drive-by Truckers, the Thermals, Black Keys, Dead Weather (Jack White), Spoon, wolf Parade, Kate Nash, Gorillaz, Gaslight Anthem, Mark Lanegan, Los Campisinos!, Clem Snide, Blitzen Trapper, BRMC, Alkaline Trio, and Band of Horses. What a great f’n year. Maybe the best year in pop music since 1991.
This year’s not as good and it seems like a bad year just because of its proximity to 2010. But it was a solid year. So hit me with your ballots in the next week or so in this thread. I’ll have mine up in a bit.

Sad to say but I'm not sure I've listened to that many 2011 albums to give a fair opinion so I'll give you what I have listened to.
1. Wilco - The Whole Love
2. Peter Murphy - Ninth
3. Deer Tick - Divine Providence (gives a shout to to Baloo)
4. Wild Flag - Wild Flag
5. Black Keys - El Camino
6. Social Distortion - Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes
I'd add Janes Addiction, Beastie Boys, Chili Peppers, 311 to the list but I'm not sure I consider them good enough by their standards to add to the list. So I'll just list them as is.
7. Jane's Addiction - Great Escape Artist
8. Chili Peppers - I'm with you
9. Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee
10. yawner 311 to round it out.

Its your list so put on it what you want or cut it off early if you desire. But you are the first person I've encountered who liked the new Jane's Addiction. I thought it was wretched and I kinda wished they just stayed broken up. And I loved them back in the day.

I didn't say I liked it. Just thought I'd add it to the list b/c I listened to it.
***So let's get rid of my 7-10.

I didn't even know they were back together. Shows how out of the current loop I am.
I now am the old guy who doesn't keep up with the current.

1) Dawes - Nothing is Wrong (Also, best live show of 2011, although Archers of Loaf reunion was right there, too)
2) Middle Brother - Middle Brother
3) Waters - Out in the Light (just snuck on the list)
4) Yuck - Yuck
5) Wye Oak - Civilians
6) Ryan Adams - Ashes & Fire
7) Wilco - The Whole Love
Most eagerly anticipated record of 2012 - Delta Spirit s/t
**I really like the Adele record, too... sue me
2011 was a year, in which I've probably bought the least amount albums, since I was a kid... Not due to quality, but other obligations, time, etc.

Tom Waits proved he still has it in 2011 with his Bad as Me album-- unless you don't like Tom Waits.
If that is the case he proved nothing.
