So Mrs. Miyagi gets sent to a Japanese Internment Camp where she dies giving birth but Mr. Miyagi is in the US Army off fighting in Europe (Miyagi mentions orders to kill Germans)...and because sending him to the Pacific Campaign would be awkward, we suppose.

This has never been cleared up. Why is the wife of a Sergeant in the US Army in a Japanese Internment Camp?

Also, why did Johnny lead into the crane kick with his face. He's the top student in Cobra Kai and he just lets Daniel land that kick.

Especially considering how much taller he was than Daniel. He basically had to bend down to let him kick him in the face. I guess he was frustrated with having already won the match (but not given the point) and was trying for a headbutt.

Because he was a hot-head and his freakin' Sensei was yelling at him to attack..."FINISH HIM!"

That was all on his coach...he was all aggression; terrible in-match instructor.

dude... That was a phenomenal(save for the Miyagi part which was completely off base) . KK1 is probably my favorite childhood movie and one I will stop drop everything to watch when it comes on.

Weren't almost all Japanese Americans put in internment camps during the war? Especially on the coasts? Maybe Miyagi was promoted.

you've obviously never been to the valley

I always wondered why when Daniel was eating dinner with his mom and she was questioning him about Ali that the Cobra Kais kept running to the window and creeping in then running back across the street, then back again. It was almost like Zabka and company were fricking around during outtakes and they just kept it in.

- Ali is a bitch...with an "i."

So at the beach, when Daniel and Ali are playing soccer, Ali just randomly kicks the ball as hard as she can. Daniel, because he is a bitch, immediately runs off to go fetch it. Why the frick would she do that?

Also at the beach, when John tries to talk to her, not only does she refuse to talk to him, but she acts like a complete bitch by turning the radio up every time he tries to talk to her.

Later, at the country club, Ali is dancing with her dad, and her mom (who is dancing with John) cuts in. Now, at that point, she could've refused a dance with John. But instead, she does it anyway and acts like she isn't enjoying it. Also, as Daniel watches from the kitchen, John leans in to kiss her and she gets all mad. I understand getting mad about the kiss, but why dance face to face with John in the first place?

And when she sees Daniel laying on the floor covered in spaghetti, does she go help him? Of course not. She sits there staring at him with pity as he scurries away.

Then that bitch has the nerve to be pissed off at Daniel at the arcade. Not to mention that she only dated him for two reasons. The first was pity...she felt bad that this poor kid was a loser and tried to make him feel better. Secondly, she did it because she knew John hated him and was trying to make him jealous. She didn't really like Daniel. Not even close. hell, she didn't even really completely accept his apology at the arcade until she saw that he had a new classic car. And to carry onto the arcade point, she straight up leaves her friends, who were clearly there to support her, at the arcade and rides off with Daniel and never tells them shite. They were probably worried sick.

Dude that was basically word for word what my parents said about her when I was a little kid. Then that fricking count drops him like nothing for the UCLA football player right after they graduate.

Ali's dad saying "Trouble with Johnny...you two lovebirds having problems?" with the old fashioned music in the background is one of the ultimate rich guy stereotype moments in cinematic history.

Yes...and that's the craziness.

Why is Mr. Miyagi trusted by the US Military to be a freakin' Sergeant in the Army and know about military details but his wife has to be put in a camp because she's too dangerous sitting in Reseda?

I'm sorry; if his wife was sent to a camp...Mr. Miyagi is not in the US Army and he's not getting medals. He's in the camp with her painting the fence.

Im pretty sure this stuff really happened quite often. All Japanese units were known for courage and bravery while families were in the camps.

Miyagi contributes to the delinquency of a minor. He is a drunk...an irresponsible one at that. At one point during his drunken fit at his house, he pours a 15 year old Daniel a glass of whiskey. That's contributing the the delinquency of a minor, Yags.

Daniel is 17-18, he's a Sr. in high school. Who the hell didn't have a drink with their dad at this time.

quote:

Miyagi is a dick. Obviously, he uses Daniel for one reason, and one reason only: as a slave to remodel his back yard, paint his house, and generally do housework. But even when he takes Daniel fishing, he has him stand on the bow of the boat and do his karate hand motions. And what does he "teach" Daniel while doing so? Nothing. He just talks about not letting Daniel punch anything and rocks the boat so he falls into the water. And does he help him back into the boat? Nope...he just sits there falling over and laughing uncontrollably ( see 3:02-3:28 for evidence).

Daniel was pathetically weak. It was obvious how sore he was after just doing the painting/sanding...Miyagi even addresses this directly by saying good. Before Daniel learned to attack he needed to defend. If you watch the Miyagi vs the Skeleton Kobra Kai fight you see that Miyagi performs almost ALL counterattacks. Daniel needed to learn to do Karate but Miyagi knew that Daniel was a smart arse brat who didn't really have any sense of self responsibility. So he had him do some good old fashioned manual labor to get stronger mentally and physically, all the while learning defense (he had a specific technique for each block). Daniel had shitty balance too and before he could learn the Crane he had to get some actual semblance of balance hence standing on the boat.

quote:

Also, after giving Daniel the car for his birthday (which Daniel never once says thank you for, btw), Daniel shockingly admits to Miyagi that "you're the best friend I ever had.." And what is his response to Daniel's deep-hearted admission? "You pretty okay too." Way to crush a young boy's heart, Yags.

He gave him a fricking car...maybe if Daniel would've thanked him he would've got a better verbal response. (further evidence that Daniel needed more structure and manual labor)

quote:

Miyagi is a child abuser. Okay, so in the aforementioned Halloween fight, Daniel is rightfully getting his arse kicked, when all of a sudden Mr. Miyagi intervenes, and proceeds to beat the shite out of a group of high school boys. And what does he do then? He flees the scene of a crime with the perpetrator (Daniel) in-tow. And keep in mind that aside from a single knee to the stomach, that fight was basically one-on-one (Daniel vs. John).

Johnny: "Jimmy, Bobby GET HIM" KK instigated the attack and for all we know they could've been 18 ("8 AM tomorrow, I'm a SR, and that's what I'm going to do...MAKE IT WORK")

quote:

Okay, so Mr. Miyagi is how old? He fought in WWII, so assuming he was about 20 in 1944, and the movie was set in 1984, let's assume he is 60. So a 60 year old janitor/handyman of some shady apartment complex "befriends" a 14 year old boy. They constantly hang out, alone, at Miyagi's house. Miyagi takes him on trips (like to the beach and fishing), loves rubbing on "sore parts" of his body (and claps excitedly before doing so), actually gives him alcohol at one point, and gives him a car. Makes me wonder if his full name is Mr. Michael Jackson Miyagi. And let's not forget that instead of spending his birthday with his own mother, he spends it with Mr. "Hands" Miyagi.

Daniel was at or very near 18...it was obviously consensual. Also where do you get this "rubbing" from? When Daniel is sore Miyagi basically puts him in a death grip.

Daniel Larusso is the worst martial arts tournament winner of all time.

If he's winning tournaments, then my name is Bruce Lee.

Since OML is obviously a giant cockgobbler, and we'll never see the too-overhyped Home Alone review, I figured we should move onto another great classic: The Karate Kid.

Sorry, I'll get to it either next week or the week after that (more likely the later due to the fact I'm going skiing for 5 days). Starting Friday I have 3 weeks off for Chinese New Year and will be back in the States. I'll then have all the time in the world to do this.

Why is Allie going to a shitty public school. Her parents are loaded. Their mansion is huge, they dine lavishly at country clubs, they play tennis. It's their own fault she brings home that Jersey garbage.

What kind of parent drops their kid off at a place called Cobra Kai. Its named after a snake and a deadly weapon. All the Karate places I've seen are named Master Lee's or Springtime Karate. And the leader guy is a crazed Vietnam vet who develops elaborate plans to hurt teen aged boys and 70 year ol men.

And who cast Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds as one of the Cobra Kai.

So, Daniel realizes he has to bolt Miyagi's on his Birthday after getting present #1 because his Mom is throwing a surprise party he wasn't supposed to know about...

...but immediately after getting present #2 he drives on over to the waterpark-arcade to find Ali.

Then he lets her drive?

Is he hoping to get present #3 from Ali?

What's worse...(going by the location of the real school) she is apparently attending a Jr. High School 40 miles away from her house.

Daniel and Ali (despite him being from the wrong side of town) lived 6 miles apart.
