That linebacking core was phenomenal. i only got to see the end of ricky jacksons career. but i've watched games and highlights from then they were beastly. We have the best offense and the best LB's of all time
That was the best linebacking corps the Saints will probably ever field.

I can remember being ecstatic that the Saints went 8-8 in 1979. The late 1980's, early 1990's were quite the tease as well.
This is the first time the Saints are no longer looked at as being "the Saints" in their history.
And, no, I never thought it would be such a complete and absolute turnaround.

For the first 4 decades of being a Saints fan, I'd see a devastating loss as them being the "same old Saints." Even after last year's Seattle debacle, nowadays, I just go, "they'll bounce back from this, no worries."

I moved to the MS Gulf when I was 10. (1985)
Been a Saints fan ever since.
Sometimes, as I watch them play now, I have a hard time believing it's the same team.
And that makes me so proud.

I've been on the golden age of Saints & La football kick for a while. If you're on the younger end of the scale chew on this...
The Saints are YOUR team and it takes them 20 years to bust .500. Not playoffs or being great, just not being a loser. Imagine if this was the first winning season since 1991. The oldtimers don't claim any fan superiority for that. But it is an aspect of perspective that cannot be ignored. Living through that pain makes the sweetness today all the suhweeter.

did you mean the core of ILB's mills and Vaughn? or the OLB's in swilling and jackson?
if you were referring to all 4 LB's as the "core"
well then
why can't anyone here learn to spell CORPS??????

Personally I have only been following the Saints since I was 8 - 1995. I went through some rough seasons, but nowhere near the level old time fans have gone through like my dad. I remember him telling me stories how a kicker was drafted one year and next year he wasn't even on the team. The team would always find a way to lose. They redefined it. In 1999 Tim Couch completed that hail mary and I tried to join another fan base for a 2 month period because the Saints always sucked. But I couldn't as my dad said, "Cause it's in your blood."
These are great times for Louisiana football.

well since they are generally acknowledged to be the greatest linebacking corps in NFL history it is hard to disagree with you
