Is anybody else having this problem right now? I hunt in Copiah, MS and we have not been seeing many deer within the past few weeks. Even the pictures on the trail cameras have gone down. Our neighbors havent been seeing much either. Dont know whats going on and wondering if anybody else was having this issue

Seems to be a growing problem every since Miss. has implemented the open doe day everyday deal. While they put a limit on this, theres always people that play the number game over ethics. I noticed the decline in numbers several years ago. I do understand they were trying to get the buck/doe ratio corrected, but when they started this it was supposed to be for a short time. Hunted Miss. all my life and it hard to watch numbers decline. Paying more for licenses and seeing less. Only explanation that i can think of.

I have hunted SWMS for roughly 17 years. In my opinion the first 3 weeks of December is the worst part of the season. The deer just seem to lock down. Come New Years the action always gets better.

I've noticed a slow down also. Still seeing deer just not as many as the week of Thanksgiving. I think the moon is having an effect the last 3 or 4 days.

I saw about 30 this weekend in 3 hunts. All over the cameras too. Around the spillway.

This is our first year in MS so I wasnt sure if this was a regular occurance. It seems like the last few times ive been hunting there has been a bright moon with clear sky at night.

If you have acorn trees which are dropping acorns your deer are picking them to eat over most anything else.
I have a green field and corn feeder in my back yard. Since the oaks have started dropping acorns I have gone from 150# of corn a week to about75#. The cam is showinng most movement at nite. I have a 14"-7 point and 3 spikes which I see almost every nite but haven't then in about a wk.They will show back up when the acorns are gone or a doe gets hot.

We hunt in Amite County, MS and aren't seeing anything in the foodplots. The last few years we have been hammering them in the food plots. Now we are back to hunting ladderstands in the woods. Saw quite a few this weekend deep in the woods. This is the biggest/latest acorn drop I have seen in a long time. I was in the woods Saturday morning and everytime the wind picked up you better cover your dome or you were gonna get plunked.

Like another poster said, they will come back out in the plots once the acorns are gone, or once they get to chasing.

There needs to be a good hard freeze to kill all the browse in the woods and start to sour the acorns. There is too much food for the deer in the woods right now.

It'll get better.

I have seen eight total all year and none of those were bucks. They came in and strip cut our land this year and I think that this has hurt our hunting. I am not really even getting any trail cam pics either (one buck here and there). Like others have said, the acorns that were produced this year probably have a lot to do with it.

I was hunting around Alexandria a few weeks back and the acorns were falling like crazy. My cousin said the feeders get a break b/c the deer favor the acorns. Still managed a doe that weekend.

I don't hunt far from copia. Killed my first 8 point the other day. It's been kinda hot. All our pics on our cam have been between the 2:00 am- 3:00am time slot. So I'm gonna wait til it gets a little cooler.

The day I killed my 8 it was in the low 30. And you could smell he was starting to rutt. So don't give up. They're about to be chasing and it should be cooling off soon.

Claiborne county. Not too far from you.
