LSU Most Efficient Offense

Thought this was cool so figured I'd share. I got tired of hearing that LSU's offense was lacking in yards per game. There are even people that are saying that UGA has a better offense because they have more ypg than LSU. The problem with the YPG stat is that it does not take the short field into account.
I would like to see someone using offensive ratings by the efficiency of the offense. Since efficiency is measured by amount of work/ amount of result, I put together the following list of yards per point.
The following list uses stats from espn.com LINK to rank the 120 FBS schools by the amount of yards it has taken to score each point. There are other people doing offensive efficiency ratings that are too complex for me.
Any way hope you enjoy....

LSU Most Efficient Offense
Most would say this is a sign of great D and Special teams play. And the best TO margin in the country.

Sure
But the red zone offense has also been very efficient. Getting 7 instead of 3 is critical to be #1 on this list.

It obviously is, but it shows how good our team really is. We have the best defense and special teams combo in America. Put that with a very efficient offense and you won't lose many games, and we haven't lost any

Shitty competition. Georgia has played none of the top 3 teams in the West this year.

I can agree with that. The point was just that we have not needed the yards to put up impressive numbers on offense whether it was because of turnovers, defense, Brad Wing, or impressive time chewing offensive drives this year.
Either way

Nice stat.
It's not LSU's fault that their defense/special teams gives the offense short fields.
Kinda like Sean Peyton about Mark Ingram. The only thing keeping him from being rookie of the year is me.
The only thing keeping LSU's offense from being statistically really good is their own defense/special teams.

They have played a cakewalk of a schedule. The two best teams they played, yeah they lost.

Something else to consider is that LSU will often take a quarter or so to get started on offense. They will have several drives where they don't do much, and the defense and special teams will attack and fight for field position. The offense will batter the other team's defense and wear them down.
Then, LSU's offense will explode with consecutive 80 yard drives that take 10-15 plays or score quickly from 45 yards out because of good field position. How many times this year have we seen LSU's offense put up 14-21 points in a quarter and blow the game wide open?
That is why a 14-0 deficit with 6 minutes to go in the second quarter was no big deal. LSU scored 21 points before the half to effectively end the game. Then, we scored 17 points in the 4th while Arkansas was gasping.
The defense and special teams just kept applying the pressure.
It really is a beautiful thing to watch for people who actually understand football. Just looking at the stats gives you a skewed perspective.
This is one of the best college football TEAMS I've ever seen. The only one that I can think of that compares is the Nebraska teams in the mid-90's.

does this ypp stat exclude the defensive and special teams scores?
Posted on 11/29/11 at 10:41 am to clamdip
No it doesn't I'm at work and didn't have time to do all that. I just figured as long as they include ppg and ypg as purely offensive stats i could call this offensive efficiency. Scoring efficiency may be a better wording.
