I doubt Wing's confidence on the field or with the ladies is shaken because he doesn't have "Ray Guy Finalist" on his resume after one year.

Yeah, he'll continue to be a world class punter/poonhound dual threat athlete for some time.

When Detroit realizes how much he could be worth paired with their defense and offense, he's gonna get PAID.

Stats do lie. Brad Wing never has the field in front of him to put up high yards per punt, total yards, etc. If he did, he's be up there with the number collectors.

I can't pronounce this dude's name, but he reminds me of wing. Maybe a little more leg, if that's even possible.

"Stats don't lie. Check #81"

Wing is #81 in the country in total punting yards, which is more a function of how many punts he has than of his punting ability. Total punting yards is a worthless statistics, particularly since LSU's offense is sufficiently strong that we don't punt a great deal. Note, for instance, that the national leader in punting has twice as many punts as Brad Wing.

As everyone is pointing out, we need to look at net punting average, number of punts inside the 20, and return average. Using these indicators, it is clear that Wing is an offensive weapon of extraordinary talent.

They need a Punter rating combining all the stats: gross yds/punt, net yds/punt, punts inside 20/10/5, and TDs called back for emitting too much swag.

Its amazing how big he has come up in our biggest games. BWING for Heisman in 2012

They definitely don't take the right stats in account. As for just being a freshman I hope that is not the case. It is a season award not a lifetime achievement award.

You are not clever but more likely retarded like Ace Ventrura. Ray Finkel was a place kicker and while he holds NCAA records for longest field goal and most points in a season, he will always be remembered and blowing a Super Bowl and losing his mind and becoming a woman to hide his shame and thus they would never name a kicking award after him, let alone one for a punter.

I sent them a comment:

quote:

How is Brad Wing not a finalist for the Ray Guy Award? His combination of skill and consistency has been a tremendous factor in LSU's dominant season and combined with a damn strong defense, has changed the playbooks and perhaps even the way statistics are weighed in the future as opposing teams are consistently given a very long field to work with while LSU commonly has a short field. Result? Good offenses may get yards, but rarely score and get worn out by the 4th quarter. LSU's offense, though low on yardage stats (remember: short field), is among the best red zone scoring offenses.

Brad Wing's talent and contribution is on an entirely different level than any other kicker I've ever seen.

I am too lazy, but I would track punting like this. Net punting average, plus Every punt lands inside the 20 the yardage difference between the 20 and the punt is added back into the the net average. Here is an example. Punt 1 55 yards lands on the 35 returned for 7 yards = 48 yard net Punt 2 34 yards lands on the ll no return = 45 (34 yard punt + 9 extra yards for inside the 20.) Punt 3 = 45 yards lands on 15 returned to 21 = 39 yards. Average is 134 or 44.6 Old net average is 123 total yards or 40.3 yard net average New net average is 132 total yards or 44 yard a punt. This shows more accurately the value of a punter, and does not statistically devalue a pooch punt.
