I don't know enough, I guess, about baseball.

Can someone give me the cliff notes why this is a bad idea - or why people don't want it?

Much appreciated.

It is much harder to make the playoffs in the AL.

The brewers are getting preferential treatment from the commissioner bc he used to own them.

It is pretty simple.

Truthfully... in my opinion, it comes down to Fan Passion. Moving from the NL to the AL will make me no less of an Astros fan. But, in my opinion, I enjoy NL rules and style of baseball compared to AL.

Consider, if LSU was forced to move to the Pac12? Most LSU fans agree that SEC football is more enjoyable. That is how I feel about the NL with baseball. This isn't about fans "not wanting to change" -- it is all about passion, and what factors go into building that passion over the long term. I've been a fan of the Astros, and a fan of the NL style of baseball for over 35 years. I am now being forced to change my values of what built those 35 years of passion. It will happen, just not overnight.

I like seeing the Astros play the Cubs and Cards four times a year. Up until the last 4-5 seasons, the NL Central was almost always wide open until the last few days of the season if you weren't the Reds. The division wasn't ever considered one of the premier divisions in baseball, but it was very competitive within itself.

Now it's a whole new set of teams and games. To boot, the old teams are now in a different league, and we won't even necessarily see them every year anymore (granted, I'm not exactly sure what this "continuous interleague play" involves).

And then, on top of that, it's almost a different game across leagues. You don't get to see pitchers try to hit. You have to carry an extra hitter that's worth a damn (and we're talking about my beloved Astros, who decided to get trade away of most of their youth for inexperience this season). I've always preferred NL baseball.

It's just weird.

i'm a long time natl league fan. i love seeing the cardinals play; ditto for the dodgers, cubs and several other national league clubs. the damn royal, athletics and various other shite doesn't hack it. i'm no longer buying astro tickets. hell, i can fly to atlanta or miami a few times a year and watch real baseball (i hate the DH).

I don't hate it. I just hate how Bud extorted this out of the Astros.
