Hello! I am a long-time lurker who decided to finally come out of the closet :) I posted a query about Tope La Restaurant in Hammond on another food board and was directed here. I was wondering, has anyone been? How was it? I looked at the menu online and while my BF was oohing and ahhing over the sauces, I felt a bit skeptical.

Chef or owner?

ETA, On second glance you appear a bit critical of the joint, so maybe I'm off, or maybe your are one of the more clever of either of the above to ever grace this board on a first post.

Jacmel Inn right down the street is light years ahead of them but it is one of the nicer restaurants in Hammond historically

that was a face of amazement and disgust. I don't go for dishes that heavy and/or piled up.

Five Cheese Lasagna. Available exclusively every Thursday from 4pm-10pm (Italian Night).

And R2R, that was sarcasm.

Ok cc, so I'll be the nice one here. Thought everything on the website looked good. I dont mind piles, so long as its good. The scallup dish looked wonderful.

But since when was Hammond between BR and NO?

Might taste great, but it doesn't look appetizing to me.

I think he was hinting to you that it's time to get in the kitchen and learn to cook. I think he likes Italian.

I usually get the Chicken Fried Steak, but was disappointed in it when ordered it last week. Steak was extra chewy and the sugar snap peas weren't very appetizing.

The sauce and mashed potatoes were excellent.
