How can the board fire Paterno...

But leave Mike McQueary on staff? He's just as guilty as Paterno. In fact, I would even say he's MORE guilty because, unlike Paterno, he actually witnessed the incident and never called the police.

This hasn't been discussed at all.

Cut the head off the dragon and the pieces will fall as they may.
National Outcry = Paterno
National "Well They Maybe Shoulda Fired Him Too but Oh Well" = McQuaery

I don't think he is "as" guilty as Paterno. Paterno runs the show. Paterno reports to no one. McQueary reports to Paterno. McQueary should have probably done more, but I actually put the burden on the head man.

It'd be nice if we get the fly on the wall to tell us exactly what mcqueary told paterno.

he was detailed in what he told the grand jury. i'm sure whatever he told the grand jury, he told the same to JoePa.
If you were JoePa, wouldnt you ask, "What did you EXACTLY see Mcqueary?"

I think we know exactly what he said. Cowherd summed it up nicely today.
-McQueary saw it and went to his dad
-He and his father went to Joe Pa's house...not office
-Paterno said "I remember something about horseplay, etc."
Do you really think McQueary was THAT moved to go to Paterno's home one night because he saw "horseplay"? "Oh dad....you won't believe this...Sandusky popped the kid's arse with a towel".

i agree. given the nature of what he saw, i don't see how any particular of the details account is left behind.

They are protecting themselves from a lawsuit from McQueary.

McQueary wasn't even getting paid when he first reported it. You can fire a guy for something he did before he was hired that wasn't a crime?
Posted on 11/10/11 at 1:16 pm to RollTide1987
i think just this topic alone could have its own board; its been discussed ad nauseum brotha

I stole this from a comment about the victims
First off, I don't understand how McQueary could have stayed at Penn State and watched this child molester have free reign to the Penn State facilities after knowing what he saw. He should have left on his own free will after realizing that no criminal charges were going to be filed. There are plenty of other jobs, in coaching or elsewhere, where you don't have to observe a child predator work his spell on young boys.
Now, as for legally, I can side with McQueary by turning the above statements about the victims and applying it to McQueary...
Who is he going to tell? He told his dad and Joe Paterno.
who do they trust? I'm certain that his dad and Joe Paterno were the two men in this world that he trusted the most
who would you trust in this situation? McQueary proabably already knew about the 1998 case. He would have known that there were no charges filed then, why would now be any different?
He legally did what was asked of him. He won't last past this year, but he also, as a grad assistant, did his part in the investigation.

plus, who are they going to tell? they are troubled kids who had one of the people they trusted most in the world absolutely ruin their life.
who do they trust? one of them tells his mom, who then tells the police. sandusky admits to showering with the son to the mom and a detective hears it. yet, nothing happens.
who would you trust in this situation?
you don't trust any adult males.
you don't trust law enforcement because they dropped the case.
you don't trust Penn State people because they allowed this to happen.

joe pa was not capable of running a clean sports program at his age....his awareness and control was not there.....he got fired.....do u honestly think this gets by a nick saban or a miles? no....sandusky would have been under the jail yrs ago......there are obviously other things they know about joe pa that is being kept quiet

Look at the grand jury report. McQueary's testimony was the only testimony described as "extremely credible." At the moment, his statements are going to be important for the prosecution of not only Sandusky, but the perjury trials against Curley and Schultz. There is probably extraordinary pressure to keep him close and happy.
The disgusting part of this is that I don't believe McQueary, for a second, is innocent in any of this. He was probably offered a quid pro quo deal by Curley and Schultz that if he stayed quiet, his career at Penn State would skyrocket. He's only coming clean now because the end is near for so many people.

The fact that he was a GA makes no difference. He was a 28 year old man that witnessed a ten year old being raped and did nothing to save him.

I don't know the ins and outs of that, but a football program should be able to fire a guy who can no longer reasonably be expected to perform his duties.

He left a boy being raped in a shower to go chat with dad and then they did NOTHING for 24 hours.
In that time, Sandy could have killed the boy or continued to rape him for 24 hours.
It was cowardly as hell for him not to at minimum pick up a damn phone and anonymously tell campus police to go check the showers.
I don't see how hard it is to understand that he left a man abusing a child and didn't try to stop it either himself or asking campus police to do it.
He disgusts me just as much as every other enabler in this mess.
