Interesting concept. Plausible indeed.

Probably end at 20 teams, but that will take a decade. We are headed toward mega conferences and away from NCAA influence. NCAA has lost credibility and won't be able to recover.
15 and 16 might be OK and Okie State cause the PAC Presidents are too elite to take OK State. May take a couple of years. 15 and 16 don't come from the ACC unless it starts to split at the seams.

North Carolina and Va Tech. Not sure of the politics behind it, but that would encompass the old South on a map and would be 2 quality additions...

Do not think this is realistic. First, they will not leave Duke. Second, they believe they are "too good" for the SEC (Academically and Socially speaking).

No way we reduce down to 7 games after being at 9. Go to 10 game schedule. two divisions (7 games) and 3 rotating in other division based on schedule strength like the NFL does. Make SoS a tie breaker for conference championship selection.

the two who you would like and might be obtainable would be something like va tech and nc state
yes both have a big ACC buyout attached (20 million) but that would be nothing compared to the money generated by the new conference.
it would expand the SEC's geographic footprint in one of the most rational possible ways (north carolina and virginia/maryland)
But I doubt NC State or Va Tech is able to make the move - esp va tech may be stuck with virginia having recently strong armed their way into the ACC over virginia's original objections. North Carolina would obviously be a more highly coveted North Carolina option but they IMO are not leaving the ACC basketball partners they have in Duke, Wake, NC State, Maryland etc just to get sodomized on the football field
Obviously Texas is a pipe dream (too arrogant, not interested in the competition and have the LHN) and unlikely to pull teh trigger but if the SEC landed Texas and OU that would be another home run that made geographic sense
Possible 16 team SEC conference if Va Tech/NC State joined
West:
LSU
A&M
Arky
Ole Miss
Northwest:
Bama
Auburn
Missouri
Miss State
East:
Florida
Va Tech
USC
Kentucky
NorthEast:
Tennessee
UGA
North Carolina
Vandy
Possible 16 team SEC if OU/Texas joined:
West:
LSU
Texas
A&M
Ole Miss
Northwest:
OU
Arkansas
Missouri
Miss State
MidSouth:
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Vandy
SouthEast:
Florida
UGA
USC
Kentucky
FWIW neither of these seems remotely possible but both would make boatloads of money for teh SEC and all of their member schools. And both proposals really also depend on teh NCAA allowing a two round playoff to determine a conference championship

I do not see VT leaving the ACC unless Swofford and the dolts from the state of North Carolina continue to push for a North/South division split.
VT has told the ACC they do see a division of Pitt, BC, Cuse, MD, UVA, and most likely WF as their divisional opponents.
VT needs its games against GT and Miami to continue to expose us to the South.
If you see that split, the chances of VT leaving are greatly enhanced.
As for the WVu fan, congrats on your RIFLE team championships...must have been what got you into the Big 12

UNC and UVA. Football is fine. Need to help hoops and (to a lesser extent) baseball.

Absolutely - plus they add large, growing TV markets and quality academics. Football is, and will be, fine.

If they can find a way to ditch Okie State and K-State OU and kU would be fun.
Otherwise a VT and NC State combo would be cool as well.
But I hope we stay at 14.

Are you high? Who would watch any of these games outside of the states they are located?

NC St.
Va Tech.
Grab two to three more top 30 TV markets.
NC won't leave Duke.

I made a mistake with my math so it would be 3 pod, 1 perm non-pod, and 4 rotating non-pod.
I do think Kansas/Kansas St. would be a huge longshot just because they really bring nothing to the table. However, if the ACC schools turn us down and our only other options from the east are WVU and Louisville I would rather go after Kansas and Kansas St.
