Any Boy Scouts on here remember ushering in T.S. ?

This game between LSU & Ala. has brought back memories of ushering in T.S. when I was a Boy Scout. I think it was the 77-78 season we played Ala. at home, and it was a day game. A few hours before the game, and while the stadium was empty, someone had all the troops present to assemble on the bleachers down close to the field and both coaches gave a short "pep/appreciation talk" to us. I don't remember much about it as I was probably thinking other things like "I wish we were camping" , but in time these trips to the stadium, as a young kid, made me a die hard LSU Tiger fan. I'm excited about the game and regardless of the outcome we still have a tradition, a style, and a Love for the program that's not equaled by many others in College Football. Go Tigers !!!

I ushered in TS as a Boy Scout a few times in the mid-1950s. It was always a thrill.

I ushered in section 2 lower south endzone from '66 to '68. We were the section that always had the visitors.
I remember an ole miss game were the OM cheerleaders handed out hundreds of rebel flags during the second quarter. We were sitting on the first row and one of the scouts got one. He reached into his pocket for his lighter (no he didn't smoke, he was just prepared in case we needed to start a campfire). Anyway, he set the rebel flag on fire. Some drunk rebel fan (I guess that's redundant) came down the aisle and opened two big cans of cheap beer and poured them on the scout. The scoutmaster who was coming down the aisle behind him to tell the kid to put it out asked the drunk why he did that. The drunk turned around and punched the scoutmaster in the face. A dozen state troopers appeared from no where, drug the drunk ole miss fan over the concrete wall and bushes onto the field, and off to a patrol car for a trip to parish lock up. We watched the rest of the game from a friendlier section.

I was doing the same 76-78. Saw many a game that way. One time we wound up near Mike 's cage and one of our scouts thought it would be funny to knock on the cage to get the tigers attention. Got ignored at first and then Mike turned and roared. We all about jumped out of our skin. People were laughing their butt off at us.

Did it only once, in the 60s. My uncle was the den master. We didn't do much ushering, but enjoyed watching the game on the East Side.

I ushered the 14-14 game against Bama in 1985. Can scouts still get in?

I was with a group helping the EMS team in high school. For one of the games I was watching the game on the steps and a guy paid me $5 to go get him some napkins.

My troop 61 of the Istrouma council did it many occasions. One etched in my young memory is the foggy FSU game with fans throwing oranges toward the field. There were some really cold games too. We only had to usher the first half. After the fans were back in their seats following halftime, we usually took off playing in the stadium doing boy stuff.

I was an usher from troop 478 in the early 70s. Lower southeast corner. We had a lot of visiting fans in that section.

This is a cool thread...I had no idea we had so many old timers on here!

Used to go to games with my cousin. His dad had tickets on the 45, my cousins in the south endzone about two rows from the scoreboard. The fricking end of quarter horns would get me everytime. Anyway, at half alot of scouts would congregate into this area to watch the rest of the game. Not many old timers up there but there was a few. One game I asked my cousin if he was ever in the boy scouts and he said no. He returned the question to me and I said I was. He asked what happened? I said I got kicked out for eating brownies. The two old timers in front of us turned around and started laughing there arse off. Good times.

This is true for me as well
Ushering from 1996-2002 (Troop 205 -- near student section) is why I'm crazy for LSU football
Ran on the field for the Florida game in 1997, and the Tennessee game 2000.
Then the cops got smart the next time the fans got on the field.....they surrounded the goal post.
