Does this change your opinion on the outcome of the game?

It doesn't for me... I think LSU still wins this game. Nevertheless, it's a good read.

No one handles rematches like Nick Saban

Not really a rematch

And most coaches with a high winning percentage are going to win the "rematches" because they win most of their games.

Not at all. I've always thought Bama was going to win a close one and still do.

I would like to know what the stats are for Miles in "rematch" games

Unfortunately for Nick, this LSU team is a lot better than the one last year.

Ten years have passed since Saban lost in consecutive years to the same coach in college. Ever since Steve Spurrier pounded Saban's LSU teams 41-9 in 2000 and 44-15 in 2001, Saban has won 12 straight rematch games.

Intresting, but meaningless stat.

quote:

Saban has a 13-1 record as an SEC coach in rematch games against opponents he lost to the previous season. In those 14 initial defeats, Saban lost by an average of 14.4 points; in those 14 rematches the next year, he won by an average of 14.7 points.

I wonder how many of these teams were actually light years BETTER the following year.

"Remember LSU 41, Alabama 34 in 2007? Saban upset Miles 27-21 the following year in Baton Rouge."

author lost some credibility with this statement. LSU was not very good in 2008 and I am pretty sure Bama was much higher ranked going into the game. Do not recall point spread but I suspect Bama was the favorite.

Wasn't Bama a heavy favorite in 08?

His teams are young and get beat to a team with mostly vets, then those teams lose players while his teams gain experence. Thats not the case this year

If Saban has some special "gear" that he saves for these quote unquote rematch games, then that begs the question as to why he doesn't take it to that gear for every game.

no one lets Matt Jones go the length of the field in 30 seconds to blow an SEC West title...

no one lets Chris Leak and Ron Zook outfox their defense at home to blow an undefeated season...

no one fails to cover a hail mary (with future NFL DBs) to blow a Cap One bowl win on his way out the door...

no one lets their arch rival come back from 24 points down to blow the biggest Iron Bowl ever...

no one gets embarrassed by non-BCS opponents like ULM, UAB, and Utah in the Sugar Bowl ....

...like Nick Saban

Not to mention we took them to the wire with freshman Lee throwing 4 picks in that game and that's the worst defense we have fielded since the turn of the century

Both coaches rebound quite well. There is so much riding on this game from a head coaching perspective. It still comes down to the players making the plays on the field. The game will be won in the 4th quarter by who wants it most.

The article implies that Saban can somehow will a team to victory and that LSU basically won last years game with trickery. It matters little what Saban wills. The team that performs better and makes the fewest mistakes will win.
