True or false?

Meaning you cannot draft a terrible team and become a playoff team via picking up free agents throughout the year.

TRUE

Not totally true. I know last year a guy in my league picked up Vick and Hillis. He had a god awful team starting something like 0-4 or 0-5. After he added those guys, he was able to make a couple trades in addition and ended up winning the league.

This year not so much due to the fact that there weren't any huge WW pickups besides Cam in some leagues where he wasn't drafted

False.

In a good league it'll take more than a good draft unless you get really lucky.

I don't think you can win on draft day, but you can lose.

I fully agree with this, now I wish I would have worded it differently.

I could not make the draft and couldnt do it online or anything, so the league was forced to make my picks. My team was fricking terrible since week 1. And by week 3 I knew the season was a complete bust no matter what I did.

You have to have a good draft for some depth. The depth allows you to make trade to shore up your team. Making the right WW move and a good trade could be the difference.

I have made a few trades this year due to a bad draft and like my chances (starters):

Drafted
Manning
AP
Best
Wells
Jennings
Manningham

Now
Vick
Rice
Gore
Wells
Jennings
Roddy

Started 0-3 and now 5-3

Making a couple decent trades would have been my only chance. I had no depth to trade shite either however.

Drafted P Manning, MJD, Welker, Jennings, Witten, P Thomas, Starks, M. Williams(Bucs)

Picked up Cam, Colston was dropped after his 4-6wk injury prognosis, J. Hanson(kicker) is averaging like 9-10pts a game, Hey-Bey has been great coming off bench.

6-1 (#1 in division 2nd in league scoring) but about t lose to number 1 in other league. Have to see if I am number 2 based on 6-1 player right behind me.

Exactly.

I got autodrafted in an 18 team league and have built my way to a 6-2 record. Granted, I landed Megatron and Jimmy Graham so it was not a total loss. It's not a terribly competitive league, so it would not have been as easy to grab players if half my league didn't know what they were doing/zombies. I have other leagues, but this one has certainly been the most interesting.

The point is that you can build a decent team and trade to make something out of nothing. If I didn't luck into a couple of those players though, it would have been nasty. The draft is the foundation, it's not the house.

Eh, I think varies from year to year.

IMO, there really have not been that many GREAT pick-ups in the waiver wire outside of maybe Cam, a few replacement RBs for the ton of injuries (mediocre, maybe Demarco now?), and maybe 1 or 2 WRs . But there's nothing like Arian Foster, Mcfadden, etc.

Those who have been winning in my 2 leagues have mostly done so on the strength of their draft.

Cam newton was drafted in my league. So having a winning record was not going to be done by picking up free agents, no way.

I didnt have the players to lead to a decent trade. I'm 0-8 btw. Get blown out almost every week besides 2. By far the low scoring team in the league.

And the frickers in the league act like it's my fault. Maybe, MAYBE i could have won 2 games if I had been more proactive as a manager, but like i said. After week 3, i wrote the season off as a loss.

I ACCIDENTALLY didnt start a qb this week because i forgot about it.

Forgive me for not running to set my lineup when i'm 0-7.

I agree it's a bitch move. It was an honest mistake, and I still would have lost.

I disagree. I'm in a 14 team league where, after 13 trades and numerous acquisitions, I've managed to get Peterson, Fred Jackson, and Matt Forte. This is proof that anything can happen because I'm definitely liking my chances now

Decker, McCluster/Battle, Torrain, Murray, Nate Washington...

Yeah kinda slim pickings this year.
