Oregon State was probably the funnest game i attended as a student, pouring rain, gameday was on campus, coming off a National CHampionship, overtime, boy that was fun. And i like to say NEVER when its pouring, the irony makes it great

No shite. Driving down the basin bridge at 15 mph sucked. Halftime I gave up and went to The gold club ...had to listen to the post game show so I.could get the score on the way home in case the wife started getting nosy

I was there as well as a student and definitely a game I will never forget. It was a great game and just an all out party in the student section. Along with the streakers, cops falling on their asses, and music.. just one of those times in life where things come together perfect for a great time. None of the students were cold because we were still on our pre-game buzz.
Good thread of the game
The phrase is used as a sardonic phrase come into tradition as a tribute to our fans and passion. Whether it rains or shines... both players and fans alike show up ready to win and give it their all. Where as other fan bases are more "fair weather".

Yeah except for the South Carolina game a few years back where it was major downpour the whole game. My wife then and I sat thru the whole thing in a downpour. So much for "never!"

It's more of a "who cares if it rains!" rather than saying it never actually rains. I think it's awesome...I get a kick out of it every time.

the people saying its stupid because it actually does rain....are y'all being serious?

1986 Miami of Ohio and 1988 Miami along with 2003 ulm and 2004 Oregon state make this recent trend about as worthy as Louisiana Saturday night playing on loudspeakers.

i'm pretty sure its not meant to be taken literally. i mean....i've heard him say it WHILE it was raining.

Mississippi State in 96 was pretty bad. It was an early kickoff, it stormed, stopped and got really got, then stormed some more.

I was an usher for the '88 Miami game in the upper deck. Walking thru the corridors you could lean forward at a 45 degree angle and not fall over! Mistakenly got some nachos before the game, turned the corner and they blew away One person after another would try to walk thru the corridor with an umbrella and it would immediately turn inside out or blow away. I remember one lady almost blew away with her umbrella. It was more intertaining than the game I think the next week they outlawed them. I always wore a poncho anyway.
Edit: I know, I know, csb... Just brings back memories!

This is not about whether it rains in Tiger Stadium. Obviously, from half the posts, it does. We've all been to games where it rains. My first game as a freshman at LSU, it started to drizzle and I made a comment about it. An old man walking to the game told me that it never rained on Tiger Stadium, and I heard that several more times before kickoff. To me, it is a fun tradition, one of many. And being older myself now, I take every chance to tell the younger fans that it never rains on Tiger Stadium. To me, it is not stupid. Just another fun tradition.

FSU in the early 90's was a frickin monsoon but it was warm. I also remember a a ole piss game in the 90's where it was in the low 40's and rained the entire game. Awful.

I agree. I've been to plenty LSU games where it monsooned.
It's a play on words, with a different meaning. Has nothing to do with weather.
Book written by an ex LSU player....with the title,"It never rains in Tiger Stadium".... John Ed Bradley
Read it and you'll get it.
