I won't measure them by a title. You win NC's with a lucky bounce two. We had our share of good bounces/fortune in 03 and 07.

This team hasn't needed any thus far. If the time comes when it's needed maybe it breaks our way or maybe it doesnt but it won't change how this team destroys opponents.

In 03, we lost to an inferior UF team and had to grind through tough wins vs UGa and Ole Mss.

Another old fart (64) checking in.

I agree that this team is probably the best I've seen. What makes it so damn good and special is the depth we have. Look what we did to a SECW opponent yesterday without 2 key starters.

The game against Bama in 2 weeks should be one for the ages.

exactly my point...i won't forget the shakeup at the top in 2003, and I won't forget Pitt thumping a WVU team which was already booking hotels in New Orleans.

4 key starters:
Mathieu
Ware
Lonergan
Adams

Even more impressive...

have ever witnessed.
The 58, 59, 61, 62, 69, 03, 07 teams were all outstanding but this collection of athletes is incredible.

The only left for them to prove is that they can come back late with a game on the line but they haven't given been challenged late to have to do it. There's no reason to believe they wouldn't respond.

Simply amazing!

my grandfather keeps telling me the 58 team was better , thanks for giving me ammo!

I see your point and agree somewhat, but winning a championship is what seperates very good from great imo.

Thus far they have been the most solid LSU team I have seen.

This must be the old farts thread, so I'll join in.

Highly entertaining team. No letups, unlike every other LSU team I've ever seen in my 4,381 years. The most competitive I've witnessed.

I'm another geezer at 64 and remember all those teams too. I also agree this is the best team I've seen. I watched the '07 LSU-Auburn game the other night on cable and this current team looks much more polished, consistent, and confident than the earlier team that ended up BCS champs.

The fact that those games were close enough for a bad referee's call to make a difference proves they weren't as good as this team. Furthermore, I doubt those team could have done what LSU did yesterday with three key players missing, including their best defensive player.

Did you follow college football that year? UF won the NC and AU was also very, very good. Please go

I'm only 30 but I agree. In all fairness, you can't really measure any of the great teams at their peak, but what separates them for me is the fact that this '11 team simply has not had a letdown at all. It's shocking enough when a team scores on us, and keeps the game competitive in the first half. This team does not play down to the competition.

We'll see how it shakes out in 03 we LOST to an inferior team, in 07 we lost to TWO inferior teams. That's just not happening this year.
