9 games; no permanent opponents. 9 games and 1 perm or 8 games and no perm will be the transition. Permanent x div opponents have a limited shelf life as the conf gets larger.

Based on today's teams the SECe would look more like the Big East.

If Mizzou goes to the east, yes it will. Either that or 1 of 2 things will happen:

(1) each team will only play 5 of the teams in their division each year (a 5 + 2 (rotating cross-divisional game) + 1 (permanent cross-division rival)); or
(2) each team will only rotate one team from the opposite division onto their schedule each yea (a 6 + 1 + 1 schedule)

I know you don't think it's fair, but Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee are not going to give up their rivalry games, and 4 teams are enough to kill any expansion. Unless you can convince Alabama, Tennessee, and the other teams blocking Mizzou to the west to change their mind, then you need to come to grips with either a 9 game conference schedule or the untenable alternatives I outlined above.

Just get rid of the permanent opponent from the other division

You have to play all the other teams in your division. And for now it will only be 8 conf games. That's what the Presidents want. More home games and more bowl eligible teams = more money

Something is going to have to give if we go to 14 teams.

Honestly, the best solution for all parties seems to be to convince Doc Brown to send Marty back to 2010 and convince Slive not to answer his phone when Loftin called. However, that has as much of a chance of happening as Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee voting to end their various rivalry games, so here we sit. If we go to 14 teams we either go to 9 games, we don't play every team in our division, or we only rotate 1 team from the opposite division onto our schedule and it takes us 12 years to finish a home and home cycle with the other division.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of the permanent opponents altogether. Don't think its fair to make some teams play Florida Or Alabama every year while someone gets Vandy.

The Big 12 and PAC 10 play 9, and the Big 10 will play 9 starting in 2017.

There's not really a disadvantage of doing it if everyone is doing it imho.

Why would Missouri go east? It makes much more sense to move Auburn.

Because Bama and Tennessee won't allow it

I just don't see that happening. With that setup it would take 12 years to complete the home and home setup with each team in the opposite division, and I just don't see the SEC getting rid of the home and home setup here.

Given the fact that the permanent rivalry games are almost guaranteed to remain (due to the 4 team cabal currently holding the rest of the league hostage), I don't see any other option other than adopting a 9 game schedule.

Missouri won't go to the East. not only would it be a burden on Missouri to travel further, but on the other SEC east schools that have to travel to Missouri. SC and Arkansas have been paired as permanent rivals since the last expansion and its been nothing special because it's such a long trip. i expect that Auburn will move to the east and a 6-2-1 schedule as you propose will allow Alabama to play both Auburn & Tennessee every year.

The SEC is already getting rid of the divisions in basketball. If they get rid of the divisions in all other (non football) sports the burden imposed on Missouri as result of their participation in those sports will be minimized.

As far as football is concerned, Missouri will have, at the most, 3 road games each year to teams in the east for their fans to travel to. I don't think that is too much of a burden on Missouri or its fans.

Go 9 and get rid of the neutral site for the SEC title game a la the Pac12. Let the best team host the SEC title game. That way the best team, will have a better chance to get into the BCS title game. I think the SEC is obligated to ATL until 2018.

I'm okay with that. I think that's a great idea.
