Regular pot smoking can definitely have an effect on sleeping patterns, memory, motivation, etc., all of which can hurt on-field performance. Also, the team does have an interest in preventing drug abuse/addiction, which can hurt on-field performance.

But it is difficult to draw the line between a recreation and a habit and an addiction, and especially difficult to try to explain why you drew that line where. Therefore, it's easier (and safer) to just prohibit it altogether.

You asked, I gave you the company line.
