U.S. senators and health officials are taking on a baseball tradition older than the World Series itself: chewing tobacco on the diamond. With the Series set to begin Wednesday between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, the senators, along with health officials from the teams' cities, want the players union to agree to a ban on chewing tobacco at games and on camera. They made the pleas in separate letters, obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press.

I remember stories about guys that refused to dive for balls when they were playing Lenny Dykstra. Apparently by the time each game was over, his spot on the field looked like it was covered in miniature cow patties.

Good. The more time elected officials waste on crap like this, the less time they have to pass bad legislation.

Dumbasses asking baseball to ban something they don't have the nads to do....

Not that I think anything for personal consumption should be banned, just making a point.

It is banned in the minors, the lone exception being major leaguers down on rehab. Still everyone dips in the minors

With all the shite going on in this country and Congress is worried about some over-paid adult athletes chewing tobacco. And people wonder why this country is going down the shitter.

If Senator Kerry were to put a dip in, his batting average would probably go up 10%.

the players union should agree to ban it as soon as the senate agrees to stop lying.
