Does LSU go to the Sugar Bowl if...

they lose to Bama and Bama goes to the NC? My understanding is that the SB takes the SEC #1. Since Bama is not available do they take the SECCG loser or can they say "hey, LSU is better for ratings so we will take them?"

They'll take LSU because the SEC East winner will have 3 or 4 losses.

Don't forget Arkansas, we had the Sugar Bowl bid last year until we lost to them. We have to put a loss on Arkansas.

If we lose to Bama, it'll likely be the winner of LSU/Arkansas that goes to the Sugar Bowl. Just like last year

Ark has been a nemesis in recent years.

as long as we have the best record/ranked higher than any other SEC team (besides Bama and Arky if they beat us), then yes
but we're going to the 'ship, so it doesn't matter

Yes, sugar will get top at large of their choice (since their AQ goes to NC) i believe so they will take LSU
May be wrong with that but i think thats how it goes

What happens if we beat Bama, then lose to Arky? We each have one loss, and it's to each other (assuming that all three remain unbeaten otherwise).

Highest ranked in the BCS I believe... that would not be us if we lose to Ark on the final reg. season game.

Sorry, I think I'm wrong. Numeruos differant tie-breakers come into affect 1st regarding the SECCG.

If LSU beats bama then loses to ark... Assuming 3 way tie with one loss... Goes to bcs rankings. If 2 teams are within 5 bcs spots of each other, then reduce tiebreaker to head to head with those 2 teams. In this scenario, likely LSU and bama would be within 5 spots, LSU wins head to head, and goes to seccg.

...Under the BCS rules, if the Sugar Bowl loses it's tie in (#1 Bama to BCS title game), the Sugar Bowl would get the right to select any BCS eligible team.
However, from a practical standpoint, it will almost likely select another SEC eligible team. The reason is because if it doesn't, the SEC will find another BCS bowl that will get them those millions of dollars.
In 2007, LSU did not play in SEC title game and was invited. In 2008, UGA did not play in SEC title game and was invited.
There is no rule that says the Sugar Bowl must take the SEC Champ game loser. In many cases, the SEC Champ game loser is not eligible. In other cases, the SEC Champ game loser may be lower in rankings.
