How long does it take TCU to become mediocre again?

TCU has had its recent run while being a member of one of those bottom-feeder conferences...who really thinks that they will maintain that level of success? And once it stops, and the program loses its luster, will it be another Baylor when the dust settles?

not long. they had a niche where they were getting some good players and playing a weak schedule (like boise). their coach was then annointed as right behind saban in the greatness category. well, with a&m on the upswing and tcu's schedule getting tougher, the small private school in north texas is not going to be as good. i say their luster will be lost quickly (esp with the year they are currently having) and baylor might pass them up.

FIFY, I hope they are happy where they are at, 5 conferences since 2000

They will actually get better recruits, cause they are actually in a recognized conference. Great move by them.

I don't think that's necessarily going to happen. They do seem to have a good cadre of wealthy alumni/boosters so I don't think money for facilities will be a problem and it's a good school with a tradition and history.

If this follows true to form, Patterson, who is no one's fool, will abandon ship ASAP and the program will take an immediate dive (please see Louisville/Petrino for a recent example).
Secondly, it wasn't that long ago that Utah was the TCU we see today. Where is Utah today after joining the Pac 12?
vs. Montana State Salt Lake City W, 27-10
at USC TV Los Angeles, Calif. L, 23-14
at BYU TV Provo, Utah W, 54-10
vs. Washington Salt Lake City L, 31-14
vs. Arizona St. Salt Lake City L, 35-14
Enough said!!!

I was just about to post this same thing. Utah isn't exactly making a strong arguement about these top non-AQ's being competetive week in and week out.

Next year!

TCU has that same stigma Boise has had... they can beat good teams once or twice a season (ie Wisconsin last season, Oklahoma a few years back) But no one really thinks they would be able to play games like that on a weekly basis and still be decent.

This is assuming TCU isn't currently mediocre, correct?

Sure as hell didn't happen when they were in the SWC. The reason they were not invited to the Big 12 is because they Sucked for a number of decades at the end of the SWC.

It's been a problem to date
they play in what I guess is a dump of a stadium, the way I've heard it described. They currently are putting a fresh coat of paint on the thing, but even with all the recent success, there hasnt been enough money in the coffers to do any substantive remodeling. Now, with the big12 TV money, I'm guessing that will change, but I cant imagine them really reaping those rewards for another few years - at which point and time, it'll be too late.
And yes, their fans are loyal, but they are few in number and TCU has had virtually no success rousing interest in it's athletic program outside of the alumni base.
I think it's a tough road ahead for them.

The exact same could be said for A&M.

I see TCU being like Northwestern in the Big Ten...competitive at times, but mostly bottom half of the conference.

Amon Carter was a dump.
In December of last year TCU imploded the entire west side of its stadium and built a new structure on the north end zone. They intend to implode the east side after this year. The stadium, save for the concourse on the south end zone, will be entirely brand new.

Chicken,
You have to admit that the Big12 is geographically a MUCH better fit for TCU. It's where they probably wanted to be in the first place, but without all of the aTm, Mizz chaos.... they were never going to get an invite.
They knew the only way out of the Mid-Majors was to take whatever they could get. The Big East was the opening of the door, and now, I bet they couldn't be happier than being in the Big12.
Would it be better to be Northwestern or Vandy in a Big Conference.... or a Boise in a small one?
I bet they take the big money from the big conference every time.
