I am not sure which boards these remarks are appropriate for so mods move me to where you see fit.

After watching Florida's team yesterday I have to remove some of the importance of recruiting. 4 and 5 star players. My rationale is not becuase of the Boise's or TCU's. I always hear how Les is winning because of how Saban tee'd it up for him.

Well Urban laid the foundation for Muschamp and Weis and they are a good team. But not ready to challenge the best.

When I look at Florida's starting defense in shush they got butchered. I remembered alot of these recruits coming out of high school, playing in the all American games and being discussed on this board.

Jelani Jenkins
Jon Bostic
Matt Elam
Dominique Easley
Shariff Floyd
Michael Taylor

This is just to name a few. Not even talking about Debose, Patchan and X. Nixon on the offensive side.

My point is even Florida state is struggling with top recruits and Wisconsin is balling with 3 and 4 stars.

My point is Les deserves more credit than he gets. Coaching the talent is very important and the scouting services ranking is way overrated.

People need to realize 2 things about Florida
1. They lost their starting QB the week before and that can kill a teams confidence. Especially considering they had to play a Freshman.

#2 They are in the process of installing a new offensive and defensive philosophy and system. Athletes help to cover for lack of knowledge or understanding of the system. But LSU has the same type horses as Florida. It will take a little time for the kids to learn and have confidence in the new systems.

I agree with you that a significant amount of the ratings by the recruiting are based on reputation only. Mathieu and Claiborne were nothing until LSU recruited them.

the scouting service rankings are flawed because of the nature of the beast. the sheer volumn alone is staggering and the rankings must come in fairly early, like when a kid is 17 yrs old. however, they are a tool and gives the coaches a good idea of who to evaluate. it is the public that overrates players based on their star rating and many pidgeon hole the atletes based on their ratings. overall, it is still better to have mostly 4 and 5 star guys( if they are not prima donnas) to work with and yes, i think Les and his coaches do an excellent job of both recognizing and developing the young talent.

Experience plays a large part too. Don't write these UF guys off yet, it's a new system entirely and most of these guys are playing for their first or second years anyway

Dude was a walk on. Probably not even a 3*. Has nothing to do with his position dropping him from a 4*. He was just a guy under the radar that turned out to be pretty solid.

I suspect you wouldn't have felt the need to post this view if Bama hadn't taken out Brantley.

I get that Brantley is hurt but we lost a 5 sta QB in RP and we had to keep moving forward. I bet you Florida has out recruited us overall in the past 4 years based off of rivals. That's just an guest.

But we are coaching our talent too. The offense for Florida I will cut some slack. They lost thier QB and RB. But there is no excuses for that defense to get beat up the way they did two weeks in a row.

We have a young team as well.

different style of offense that urban had, and let's face it, when tebow left, florida was lost on offense. They have no power running backs. Hard to run a pro style power offense with spread type players. Florida will get its players, that is for sure.

If you want to take a team full of 3 star players and compete in the SEC, you go for it. I don't think you'll find too many of those starting on the two best teams in america...but hey.....to each his own.

...and long snappers. And this silly structural downgrade is averaged into the class "ranking", another failing of the raters.

Rivals, Scout, etc., are fallible tools. Coach Miles, Cooper, Stu, etc. have proven to be less fallible. In Miles we trust to evaluate, develop, and utilize.

Maybe not, but you could make a #1 NC team every year out of former 3-star players drafted in the first 2 rounds.

Our guys are just as talented as those guys. Only difference are ours are from LA. They don't get near the exposure on recruiting sites that players from FL do.

Just let it be known that Les does coach these guys well. But let's not get it twisted; LA is a hotbed. Saban opened the gates and Miles has continued it. You have To admit LSU is a pretty sweet gig, ESP when you are winning.

Les does a great job of evaluating talent, but a better job of recruiting team chemistry. The guys just plain love to play for him.
