I know it sounds silly to think about, but after doing a little research, it's not as silly as it sounds.

New Mexico is the 36th most populous state, ahead of West Virginia and Nebraska.

The Albuquerque-Santa Fe media market is ranked 46th, almost tied with Oklahoma City and Austin, and ahead of Memphis, Louisville, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Buffalo and many others.

But then there's that shitty football thing.

Should fit right in then.

Ever been to Albuquerque? I have.

Stayed a few blocks from their campus and stadium. Couldn't find JACK shite in the way of New Mexico Lobos merchandise once you stepped off their campus.

Recruiting them is a pure market thing because they sure as frick don't bring anything to the table.

As a contrast to them, I can walk into a Wal-Mart in Baton Rouge and find stuff for Southern Miss, which is a mid-major 150 miles away in another state.

I agree 100 percent. But it's hard for me to believe that wouldn't change with Oklahoma, Texas, etc., playing games there and them being in a major conference.

So far the Big 12 has lost the following states: Nebraska, Colorado and possibly Missouri. They have lost Texas A&M, which has a huge alumni group and loyal following. They need to branch out into some additional media markets. They could get New Mexico by adding UNM, Colorado by adding Air Force, Utah (and a shitload of Mormons worldwide) by adding BYU.

Hell, they could add NM and NMSU and be back to ten. The problem is those are two of the worst FBS teams in the country.

Oh, but Hatch chilies absolutely kick arse.

Provided Mizzou leaves the Big12. They need to add 4 teams. Having less than 12 teams when you are the BIG 12 is a joke. They should look at adding BYU, Boise St, TCU, and Louisville. Or maybe consider WVU instead of Boise St or TCU. You would have to move OU and UT to opposite divsions with a permanent crossover game in order to balance out the competition.

sample:
East -> West
Lou -> Boise St
ISU -> Bay
OU -> UT
OSU -> TTU
KU -> TCU
KSU -> BYU

I am pretty sure that Texas is on record stating that they want a ten team conference. If that's the case, they will stop at ten.

New Mexico is a decent program in a good market. They will return to prominence now that the Locksley era is over. They would be a huge loss for the MWC but a nice gain for the Big-12-2-1-1+x or the Pac-16.

I think the other schools should tell them to shove it and demand they add 4.

Its not like texas can leave the Big 12 for any other conference b/c they refuse to change the LHN. DeLoss has wrapped himself in that thing so tightly to back down on it at this point would probably cost him his job.
