A QB Who Can Run Will Cause RBs to Be More Productive

A QB who is a threat to run is not interchangeable with a RB. A QB who is a threat to run does not merely take the place of a RB on a running play.
To the contrary, a QB who is a threat to run tends to make every running play more productive regardless of who carries the ball whether it is the QB or the RB.
DTs, DEs, and LBs must account for a QB who can run on each play. Thus, even when a RB carries the ball, the RB will tend to gain more yards on the carry.
When posters say that LSU doesn't need a running QB because LSU has RBs, they miss the point. LSU's RBs tend to gain more yards on their own carries if the QB in the game is a threat to run.

The Ridley/Jefferson duo was certainly our best offense last year.

We need a Lee/JJ hybrid.

More so than a QB who can pass?

Sounds like the guy that kicked off the team in 2008

Or a running back that can pass. And I'm not referring to Ware.

That's weird when jj was the starter a passing qb would help the running backs more

A qb who can run but can't pass........
is a running back.
is a running back.

You do realize there was no difference last year in our running backs' success with JJ or Lee at QB right?

With 5-6 running backs do we need a QB who can run are one that can pass? I tend to lean to the one who can pass. You?

What a rational, well thought out post. Shocking on this board right now.
I agree, not to mention the fact that all defensive coordinators have to spend time watching tape and game planning for this from here on out

as of now, stop our run (apparently not very hard to do), and force lee to win in the air. That was fine against wvu and oregon defenses, but look what happens when we go up against some beef? This is what florida, bama, arky, AU, tennessee will do. We NEED jj.
I love JL but if JJ can throw as good as lee he needs to get more snaps.

I will also say this. Even if JL is a better passer, our passing game still SUCKS for whatever reason. So a qb that can run is definitley an advantage.

Just a reminder, Ware was a QB in high school.
Now that that's out of the way, what about a running back that is very good but who is also a very good passer?
Think about it.

I think some of the posters here have researched this and it seemed like the RBs averaged more per carry with JJ than with Lee.
Of course, what really matters is points. The offense was scoring 37.0 ppg coming into tonight. Scored 28 today.
I'm more concerned with the delay of game/timeouts that should be unnecessary. We have avoided that for the most part this season, and I hope that it stays that way when JJ is in the game more and more.

Any word on Ware's hamstring injury?

A quarterback that's a passing threat, is a runningbacks best friend. Stack eight in the box, a running quarterback does you no good.

Didn't the last one win the BCS? CN

A qb that isn't perceived as a passing threat make running yardage harder and harder to come by. That is why I think it might have been the wrong thing to do to pull JJ and put in Lee on 3rd and 6! Heck Lee wasn't throwing well at all and I would have liked to see JJ fire the ball out there. It isn't like the game wasn't being handled!
