Shep has average hands and runs below average pass routes. He is a good runner 7 yard ave. last year. I would like to see him run back KOs and PRs. As a WR he is 3rd to 5th best on the team.

Of course it is, but the implications that you know either way are not. He has done nothing this season to suggest he will be either great or terrible.

Show me where I implied that I know either way or not. I simply asked the question.

Of course he's not. But that isn't on Shep, that's on the tards who furiously fap over 17-year-olds and bestow upon them crowns in which they are not ready to receive (or the givers qualified to give).

I agree.

I just don't know if he is better than some of our other options. I guess we will see I hope you are right.

Bang your head all you want, but he's played more than one game for his career at the WR position. And now he's got about a season and a half left to define his career here. I'm rooting for him as much as anyone, but the question is legit.

Just because you had a good season last year doesn't mean you will be worth a shite this year. Example- Justin Vincent 2004 Sugar Bowl MVP and mostly fumblyaya and poor rushing record after that. You just don't know. Proof will be on the field.

He needs time to mature as a wr, he played qb his entire time in hs.... cant expect him to be a world beater at wr out the gate with no qb to get him the ball. so YES

Where he really needs to improve is in his ability to adjust to the ball once it is in the air. This is a skill one must have to play in the NFL and it is non-negotiable. Because of the tight coverage in the NFL QB's often have to "throw their receivers open" and being able to adjust to where the ball is throw is critical to this.

Just watch Drew Brees throw to Lance Moore and Colston even when they are blanketed. He will throw to a back shoulder say or to a spot he knows the defender can't get to, even if it is not precisely where the route was intended to go. It is because he knows those guys will adjust to the ball and the defender will not.

You can get by in college just on superior athletic ability and be a pretty good WR. You can be faster or bigger and can jump higher and get by. But to be in the league you have to be able to go to the ball. This has been RS biggest problem to date. It's kind of an instinctual thing, watch OBJ for reference, so I'm not sure if he will get better at it...but he may as he gains more experience at WR.

Can't be good for recruiting imo.

How in the hell is this gonna hurt recruiting? You think the coaches are holding him back? No, he just hasn't performed.

Is that what Shepherd is, a WR?

If he is, then play him at WR dammit!

I don't even know whether he has talent, because I don't even know exactly what he is. All I know is, Shepherd is a gifted athlete who runs around on the field with no clear identity.

If Hatter doesn't settle him in at 1 position, he is going to destroy the young man's career.

I agree with you, but not every WR develops at the same rate. It might take Shep a little while to figure out the position. He is certainly as athletic as some receivers in the NFL. And less so than some who are not. We'll see.

But Drew Brees has thrown to Lance Moore every day for the last 4 years. And he has no limit to how many hours a week he can do it. The work NFL receivers/QBs have together is in no way comparable to that combo in college. Shep has been catching 1st team reps the last year and a half from JJ. Now, he's got to catch them from Lee. I'm not saying Shep will be an All-Pro WR--or even make a roster--but it is certainly way too early to count him out. I think he has a want to be great. Couple that with great athleticism (though not great height) and I think he's going to be just fine.

I agree with you, it is early in his career to say he won't develop this skill, but I do worry when I see a kid like OBJ come straight from HS already in possesion of this ability. It just makes you wonder because there have been tons of uber talented guys that could never pick up that skill. He's got everything else he needs to succeed, I hope he can add this ability to it.

the question is still out as to whether he can be a productive college WR.
