The "No one from an existing member state" is BS IMO

The last 2 MNC's came from Auburn/Bama and they're in the same state.

We've added Texas market already. I get the footprint, but I'm not buying the no FSU/Clemson argument b/c it hurts Florida/USCe. Either of them would be a perfect fit in several ways, and both already recruit on par with their instate rivals.

The way I understand it, for all the schools to keep making the money they are used to, the first two teams need to expand tv area and the market value of the SEC.

If we end up with 16 the next two could be from a state that already has a SEC team in it, or someone like West Virignia that doesn't have as much market value to offer.

Least that's the way Tony Barnhart explained it the other day.

FSU I can see as a compromise. I'd bet the house that Clemson will never get in.

Florida is just such a huge market that I don't see it being that big of a problem having two schools from that state.

In order, I would take these if it could happen:

North Carolina
FSU
Virginia Tech
Clemson

It is about giving FSU SEC money, not about hurting Florida. No one is arguing it is going to effect us recruiting, competitively, etc. I think most just feel like they had their shot the last time, the SEC has exploded and will become an even bigger cash cow and they shouldn't get a chance now to be a part of that.

Dude, you are hung up on what should happen, as opposed to what will happen.

As much as I, too, would like to see the 'Noles invited, FSU ain't getting in anytime soon. Unless some massive arm-twisting goes on behind the scenes. And that's not the SEC's style.

I will throw down large that Clemson never, ever gets an invite.

Remember, Mike Slive does exactly what the presidents/chancellors tell him to do. And not one thing more.

Well apparently the forces in control do, so that's the way it is. Not to mention the ACC is pretty much put a lock down on anyone leaving and added Syracuse and Pitt. They are set, no one is leaving the ACC, it's going to be one of the super conferences.

I know we're about to get dealt Mizzou, I've come to that realization.

UNC would be the ultimate get though.

Read the link provided in this post above from LSU777. It provides great insight into expansion and reasoning.

That kind of logic is not allowed here.

You must get on board with the party line that 6 million people in Missouri trumps 18 million people in Florida because clearly every single man, woman and child in the state of Florida is already got their TVs locked into the SEC each and every Saturday in the fall. There's no possible way the SEC could get any more viewers in Florida than we already have. Florida State's 40k students and their 280k alumni are chump change.

And if we add Missouri to the SEC, we'll have 6 million more people glued to CBS every Saturday in the fall.

You can't argue with logic like that.

Don't even try, fool.

UNC would be the best possible outcome after Mizzou. I would venture to even inviting Duke to make that happen. Both would be long shots I would guess but money talks. That would make the SEC formidable in both major sports and increase market share dramatically. Not to mention we would be adding four great academic institutions.

If the sec network contract is written like the B1G contract, than the party line is 100% correct.

quote:

According to industry experts, the Big Ten Network receives between 70-80 cents per month from 17.6 million subscribers within its eight-state footprint, and between 5-10 cents per month from 27.5 million subscribers outside the region.

People need to stop mentioning UNC as a potential member. There is no fricking way they will be in the SEC, mostly because of the deep rooted basketball tradition they have with Duke and the ACC as a whole.

The ACC has been proactive to ensure they remain relevant in the changing landscape and I think that this will limit the SEC's options for the 14th team.

I have a dream...of UNC in the SEC. I know its Mizzou most likely though and that's ok.

After Mizzou, my guess is that N.C State and V. Tech get invites to make it 16. FSU is probably out of the discussion, although they'd be a good fit, imo. And Clemson...

F$U athletic department makes no money, why the hell do want to give there athletic department an extra 10-15 million dollars a year through increased SEC payments and football attendance. They trying to build an indoor practice facility, screw helping them pay for it.They had their chance 20 years ago anyways, screw them. No to mention they don't bring any new TV sets in.
