As a student I want to thank those who made the trip, and sorry for any misconduct that may have occurred. I know I had a bunch of friends that mad ethe trip last year and for the most part they said everyone was really friendly offering food and drinks, after yelling tiger bait...and I hope people received the same hospitality as we had offered a couple of people beer going by. Except for the score, I thought it was a series....

I, for one, was treated very cordially. It was the first time, in my travels following LSU, that I have been thanked for coming and asked how my stay was. For the most part, a very hospitable crowd.

Maybe you can answer a qutestion for me. Why is there such an undercurrent of bitterness, hostility and insecurity within a minority segment of your fanbase?

We have some of this among our fans as well, but it's much more pronounced with your fans.

Even the most mild razzing about West Virginia, WVU, the players, your immature child molester coach, etc. sets off some of your fans to the point of wanting physical violence. No witty retorts, just straight to fighting.

When that segment of your fans did talk, they never shot out any wisecracks about us, just "frick you", "frick LSU" or "go frick yourself".

Or "a$$hole" or "Barney"

I got both of these chanted at me by students up there.

You ever heard of Northern Hospitality....

Exactly.. While im sure a majority of mature WVU fans were amiable folk, there is a sort of couth instilled in Southerners that just isnt present in other parts of the country. I know there are a few bad apples around TS, because im there almost every game and i dont have my head in the proverbial sand.
But the vile, profane behavior is much more isolated and is heavily policed by our own. I just think you get a much more cordial acceptance in the Southern states

Thanks. Gotta ask the OP though, why the "frick LSU"? I mean, it was so universal among the ahole-type fans, it's almost like a message was sent out to say that. Pretty lame, unoriginal and mean spirited. Towards the end, it really got annoying, and other than being in an extremely good mood because of the arse-beating taking place on the field, I could see how easy it would have been to be drawn into a fight with some of these knuckle-draggers.

Overall, the WVU fans were cool to me, and wife, and we had a great time. I'm a fan of the team, but that segment of the fanbase...something needs to be done about them. They're really hurting the reputation of WVU.

It has more to do with ignorance than anything else. Unfortunately there are people in this state, most of which aren't students who think violence is the end of means to a verbal attack, even a mild verbal attck like 'tiger bait'. Hence the three people who assaulted that LSU fan and pushed his pregnant wife to the ground, and I am very sorry for the fellow and his wife.

Another problem, particularly foul language from the students is derived from some of our students being from New Jersey. Recently we had this situation with shirts being sold saying 'West F....n Virginia'. Being from this state I'd never wear such a shirt due to the derogatory nature against WV. The two fans I confronted for wearing them where bth from Jersey and had become WVU fans just this year...

So, sorry for any bad treatment, hopefully we can get another series going in the future!
