I'd laugh if Mizzou goes to the SEC, they'd stick out like a sore thumb. They better hope the BIG calls them or go to the Pac 12 with OU/OSU, and Colorado.

Look at every conference and you will see schools that are completely different and may "stick out like a sore thumb."
What do Stanford and Arizona State have in common?
Miami and Maryland? Vandy and LSU? Northwestern and Minnesota?
So they will be a little different than the rest of the conference. So what, maybe that's a good thing.

People on this board base way too much on what "feels" right. "Feels" has nothing to do with it.
The University presidents are the ones voting on this. They will look primarily at 2 things:
* TV Markets
* Academic quality of school
(remember these are university presidents. They hate for the SEC to be seen as a sport-centric conference with crappy academics)
Then, they'll look at these 2:
* Geography
* Competitiveness
WVU fails the first 2. It is a terrible school in a very small market.
Missouri is an AAU school with good markets. It's only drawback is geography, and even that's not so bad - it shares a border with 3 SEC states.
Based on the metrics that actually matter, MO is light years ahead of WVU.

Missouri adds more immediate TVs but more will tune in to watch WVU nationally.
WVU adds SEC passion and is dying to join, how does Missouri feel about the SEC?
And do we really need another Tiger?

If West Virginia gets left out, I suppose the Big East could pick up schools like Memphis, Houston, Baylor, Temple, UCF, etc. and keep a football conference together along with South Florida, Louisville, Cincinnati, and TCU.
Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, West Virginia, Villanova, St. John's, Temple, Georgetown, Marquette would still be a very solid basketball conference. They could probably add the likes of Xavier and St. Joseph's as well.

I also bet you the SEC is taking note and wondering why the weaker ACC is skipping over West Virginia, I mean West Virginia is better in basketball and football compared to Mizzou right. Why the hell is the ACC looking over them and picking 2 more Big East teams. Doubt if the SEC want a team the ACC don't care about. ACC knows adding West Virginia don't bring anything to the table if you're expanding for newer markets. People talk about fan bases, damn so the ACC don't want that rabid West Virginia fan base that's so excellent and rowdy

West Virginia is getting left out of the majors, at least through this round of expansion.
Tough to swallow for the WVU cheerleaders.
I don't really see a viable candidate past 13. I like the A&M add, but 14, 15 or 16 are hard slots to fill, each one worse than the last.

well, there are some ways to accommodate a 13-team conference. It isn't perfect but it is feasible.

I'm leaning towards thinking that is what is going to happen. The SEC could stay at 13 for a few years. No telling what could happen in that amount of time. Multiple conferences could crumble and major programs could be available. No sense in settling now and getting stuck with a mediocre program.
