I've got to go with either Generation Kill or The Sopranos in my opinion.

The Sopranos is in a league of it's own and is up there as the best. Especially when you consider just how big it got in it's run.

But I absolutely loved Rome, OZ, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City (in it's prime), Deadwood, and etc. And some of the current shows like Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones have been fantastic too.

If Generation Kill counts as an original series then Band of Brothers is your winner.

I've read all of the ASOIAF books and Game of thrones has the potential to pass all of them up as the greatest. Whether it occurs or not is anyones guess but the potential is there.

Generation Kill surpasses BOB and The Pacific in my opinion. All three are great but GK edges out the win.

Amen! By the way, what's your favorite scene of all times? My favorite was when Meadows boyfriend got called in to the deli testify against Vito. That scene cracks me up every time I think about it. My second favorite was when Carmilla manipulated her neighbor's sister into giving Meadow a college recommendation.

I vote for The Wire, followed by Six Feet Under, then Band of Brothers as my top three HBO series. Boardwalk Empire has potential to move up there as well.

More than BoB? Not me.

I think BoB set the bar too high and the pacific never stood a chance of living up to those expectations.

+1. I did marvel at Martin Tupper's ability to consistently bang women several levels above his station. It was good for T&A every week though.

Good point. Considering he's married to Madeleine Stowe IRL it might have been a case of art imitating life.

Cool thing I learned when researching "Dream On", which I hadn't thought about in years--great show!

quote:

Did you ever wonder where the TV set that goes to a screen full of static at the beginning of all HBO series came from? Well, it appeared in the opening credits of Dream On for the first time.

My vote, however, is a tie between "The Sopranos" (sheer excellence over an extended period of time), and the original "Band of Brothers"--no series ever affected me like those 10 episodes.
