Notre Dame should start their own conference

Seriously.
Notre Dame runs the risk of getting left out of this whole thing, along with a few other schools. If Notre Dame were to round up Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Cincinnati, Memphis, Louisville, possibly BYU and some others, they could form a conference that could demand a BCS bid and they would have enough power to keep all of their NBC money.

a big what?
I know that ND gets a BCS bid if they get 10 wins, but how often do they do that. Last time I can remember it happening, LSU killed them in NOLA. They aren't the program they once were and if they start a conference it will be hard to try and attract big name teams because of that.

And check the BCS rules made special for Notre Dame if you don't think they're a player.
And yes, that's a weak conference. That's the point. Use Notre Dame's clout to get a BCS bid, but make it weak enough that Notre Dame can call the shots and keep their money. Basically what Texas should do with the Big 12 remnants.

I would love to see Notre Dame fail. However, I think it is naive to suggest that they don't wield considerable power in all of this. They WILL be in the picture, even if they have to get proactive to keep from getting left out. They could join any conference in the country right now, bar none. It is silly to believe otherwise.
Patching together a basically shitty conference that you control would be a way to have all of the benefits of a conference, while keeping all the benefits of remaining independant.

I hate ND as much as the next guy, along with all their special treatment, etc.
however..
if ND ever contacted the SEC trying to join (i know they won't) does anyone honestly think they don't get voted in?
this of course based on the SEC equal revenue sharing plan

ND already has a TV contract. NBC.
They already get a BCS bid when they are 9-3 or better and finish #14 or better.
